I am seriously considering buying a used Audi.
It is a 1999 A4 Quattro, all wheel drive, turbo. A 4 cylinder sedan in perfect condition. The only issue is that it has 145000 miles on it. The dealer wants 4000 for it.
Does anyone know if this is a good deal?
My ride: 2002 Skidoo MXZ 600. All Yellow and proud of it.

I researched it a little ways back. If i remember correctly, the NON- turbo engines last longer than the turbo ones. It could be vice versa, but I'm pretty sure thats right.
I was looking at 1999 Audis too, and found a few affordable ones, but decided against it because the insurance would be too high as a 16 year old driver..

Thanks Greasemonkey for dragging me into this!
First of all, early A4 Quattros are before the major upsurge in technacalities ragarding onboard electronics and all that crap!
Biggest problem they have was with sludge build-up in the engine. Oil recommendations changed to synthetic oils several years after that engine was released.
My suggestion as to the value of the car relates to the old saying, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"!!
Parts replacement costs are not cheap but you have to pay to play! Check out the prices of wheel bearings, drive axles and turbos to get a feel of what it might take to make that car a daily driver.....
It's all about the ride to get there, the destination doesn't matter!

So you would say, 2SEwings, its a good car? Even with 150,000 miles? The dealer told me he put like 5 grand into it before he traded it in. that seems fake to me, since they only want 6500 for it.

Personally, I'd stay away from it because of the cost of parts.
I need big jugs on my sled, cuz my girl doesn't.

So is this a 1.8T or a 1.8?
2SEWINGS is correct about the electrical malfunctions. However this problem would have already been discovered by the previous owners by now, and fixed, you'd think. otherwise tons of the lights/relays in the car wouldn't work, some wouldn't even start.
I'd say carfax it, and if something looks fishy don't get it. Otherwise, the Audi's that don't have problems, won't have problems. My family has owned 2 and had only very minor problems. The biggest ones being a Catalytic converter switch, and an oil burning/head gasket problem on a 96 A6. The 02 A6 2.7T only had a sunroof problem.

My friend had an 01 1.8T A4 that nobody would buy for 5k, that should tell you something. 4k seems way too high.

So he put like 2 parts on it? HAHA
That alone would make me run.. someone puts money into a car, gets pissed, trades it.
I would not touch that car.
