Just got back from shooting trap at the club, and saw this on My G.P.S.
Thought it would be good for a laugh.

And This is apparently The Fastest 93 Astro on the Planet!

I figure something happened when the G.P.S got passed from one sattelite to another.

Anybody else ever have their unit do something like this.
I've actually had it read 199 m.h. Max speed once before.

Rick

Mine has done it before.

My street pilot just broke for the second time. It is about to be sent back for warranty work. Not very happy about it but glad I bought the extended warranty, we will see how it pans out. I have had all 3 of my garmins break now at least once.

Lol. On my handheld GPS the max speed was like 400 something. My dad took it with him on a airplane when he went to Texas on a hunting trip, he said they weren't to happy when he was playing with it on the plane though. In the family we have 2 handheld Garmins like yours, but ours are etrex legends, and 4 navigational Garmins in our vehicles. When i get a truck ill be getting one also. So far ours havent done anything like that, that i know of, and not one has broken.

Heh, I wonder...

If you throw a GPS will it be as accurate at measuring speed as radar?

Maybe you and Bear were in the opposite seats that trip than you should have been

It's all about the ride to get there, the destination doesn't matter!

ive had my magellan say I was going 700 mph on my bike before. The accuracy was horible at the time at like 700 feet and it only had 2 or 3 satalites.

Festus - clunker that van :)

It run's and drive's perfectly, it's just the body that need's help.
255,000 mile's, and I'm still getting 20 mpg
I don't even qualify for Cash for Clunker's

My 99 Alero on the other hand, is sitting in the yard with a junk motor at 120,000.
The motor in that one died from the effect's of Dexron coolant.(Thank's G.M.!)
So that one does'nt qualify either, since it does'nt run. (Thank's Obama!)

I'll keep the Astro until it can't be fixed anymore.

Rick

mines pulled a 250mph before i think it was, just a random error on the data. the one i have for my rc planes dosent throw out outliers so you get some odd reading when it first locks it will be miles off then narrow in within a second or two.

speed calculations depend on the data refresh rate, which normally is 1 second. basically it means it samples the data once a second and goes off that, since its not a hole lot of data it takes a while for speed to be accurate, making it impractical for that use. when you see it advertized as 1hz refresh rate, its 1 per second, 5hz is samples per second which is alot more data for it to calculate off making speed and heading information much smoother. too bad most consumer devices are still 1hz

gps units calculate speed by taking a sample of data from the satelites every second, determining how far you traveled in that second and then calculates a moving speed. so your speed is updated once a second or so, this is why the speedo on a gps unit responds at a slower rate then what you are actually accelerating. some newer gps receivers will pull 5 data samples per second, making the results (speed, altitude, heading) respond faster to changes and look smoother. sorry lots a beer and no sleep lol

that seems realistic, if you slapped some monster stickers on the side, and a big DC on on the windshield. haha jk

heres how it should look
