I think its funny how big of a deal you guys here make out of the smallest thing said. 3 pages of arguments over my opinion when buying a sled.
That's because you don't make good points.
Maybe if you thought before you spoke you wouldn't have started this dumb thread and got off to a bad start on your second time back at SF. Don't forget you got banned before anyone hated you, then came back and got banned again.
I just think he maybe needs to make it clear in his posts that it is just "his opinion" and not fact. I think he's made improvements with how he conducts himself here though. I don't think anyone actually hates him. I don't think most folks here are capable of that. As long as he accepts criticism constructively, he will learn and become a more productive member here.

Naw dude I wasn't trying to "bash" you, I was putting your opinion on my current curcumstance, and you never answered my question sean.
Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

Hmmm.. very interesting, those handguards on my moms rx-1 make it trashed. Ah and the riser on my dad's viper means it's a pos. Oh and I took the windsheild off my sno pro so obviously I launched it off a cliff after I poured 37 gallons of gas on it and lite it on fire.
Oh by the way hi sean nice to see your back, how many sleds have you had since you were last present?

Well then.... I have everything mentioned on my sled, and I do like to ride it hard, but it's not a POS..

Most sleds have a higher resale value when things like pipes, aftermarket decals, stickers, and things like that, aren't present. Stock is usually the best way to sell your sled.

Great, my sled has a can and risers on it, I'm screwed I guess. The aftermarket windshield and the windshield bag were probably a bad idea too, huh?

Haha, I love how you guys take things out of context since you hate me. I'm not saying its going to take $1000 of what your sleds worth, but a lot of people get iffy when dealing with aftermarket stuff.

That's why you show receipts from the dealer, and if you put it in yourself have them come look at/test ride it and see how good your job was.Think of it this way, if aftermarket parts are so bad why do they offer the for every sled.

That is one thing I will agree with u somewhat on it does take a little money with aftermarket parts but if that person sent it to a shop and had a pipe put it on I do not think the sled is worth nothing but it is worth a Little bit lees than a sled with a stock pipe. but would I buy a sled with after market parts on it? the answer is yes but only if the price is right and after I give it a good search to see if any thing else could be wrong.
1998 Polaris Indy 500 chassis with 98 Xc 600 motor
SLP ceramic coated pipe with SLP can
V-force reeds
4 inch pivot riser
Gutted Air Box
EPI clutch kit soon to be installed
Maybe some pro tapers
1998 XC 700 water-cross sled
SLP twin pipes
Some light weight parts
Water-cross mods include taking the parts u do not need
This includes removing the seat replacing gas tank and IFS bars.

I to have bought sleds with pipes and a clutch kit, and decals.
That's another thing I've dealt with. Me and my dad have rebuilt dozens of 2-stroke motors, and tuned them in properly and have had them see over 2000 miles with 0 problems, so of course, when we do rebuild an engine, we sell it as "Freshly rebuilt motor, ready to go", and people say "Do you have the receipts for parts, and the proof of the dealer doing the work", I say "I have receipts for parts, but the dealer didn't do the work, I did", then they say "Nevermind, I'd rather have one that a professional did the work on", or they just don't reply. The thing is, some "professionals" do hack job work, where as some no-name mechanics do incredible work.

In a small way your kind of fighting with yourself, you say mechanics/dealers do hackjobs, but a general assumption from your list is things that are factory options (factory handguards/lower windshield/riser) would make it a better sled than a aftermarket high riser/cyi powermadd handguards etc..or an engine work done by a do-it yourself home person. So why would I buy something that a dealer hackjobbed (factory options) but I wouldn't from a person who does it own work who you say is so much better (aftermarket options)
I highly doubt you have built dozens of engines, your dad did the work, you just passed him the wrong wrench sizes that he asked for.
Sean, if you know we hate you, and you know we'll bash you, and you knew this was going to happen, why do you come back and continue to post? LEAVE, just cut your loss and leave, seriously, I think your an idiot. Its like your the kid who always gets his ass beat by a gang, but you always walk back on the same street knowing what will happen.

Heres from HCS. Quote originally posted by 'olsmann195' Just an FYI, and this is NOT directed towards anyone specific person or brand at all. Just to sellers in general. If you have to repost your sled 3 times a month on this site and every other snowmobile site in the world, and if you keep having to give it a TTT over and over and over again every 3 days! YOUR SNOWMOBILE IS OVERPRICED !!!!!!!!!!! Trust me! Its that simple! I'm Sorry! but its NOT your superb marketing skills that are failing you. Yes we saw your ad on snowest, hcs, johndee, carsoup, sledswapper, vintagesled, dootalk, totallyyamaha, articchat, snowmobilefanatics, and all 6 of the craigslist areas you chose to list it under. It doesnt matter if you just bought it, or if you paid $XXXX just last year.(im am truly sorry you paid that much for it though) or you had to pay your buddy 23 hours labor to put a skid plate on. I will not pay full retail for the accessories youve chosen to add to it. Your boss seat you paid 500 bucks for is worth 200 on ebay and 50 on the sled IF you can also give the stock seat with it. Its the same ratio for every other accessory you have added to the machine. Next Even if I did race and wear a flat bill monster hat I would still not be impressed with all performance parts you have added. See I dont trust you and I dont expect you to trust me. So I am going to judge YOU just as much as the sled based on our brief encounter. And at that time i will make a quick detrimination on weather or not I think you are qualified to properly operate, tune and install these types of components. And guess what? My gut instinct is telling me that you are NOT qualified to "race port" your own cylinders with your dremel tool. Next , I know YOU think 6500 miles on an 07 isnt bad but guess what? Most people consider it junk. I.E price it accordingly. And do us cash buyers a favor, telling me you rebuilt motor 300 miles ago really isnt a plus especially when we see your garage and you clearly do not own enough tools to open a jar of pickles. Having a ski doo banner hanging in your garage doesn not make you a master mechanic. And come to think of it Why are you selling now that the motor is just rebuilt? Should be good to keep for another 5000 miles right? NO, I have rebuilt plenty of sleds and I too have slapped one back together quickly just to sent it down the road. My point is you are better off just lieing about it and saying it has never been apart. Then at least i can tell myself that YOU didnt work on it. All buyers want to buy the clean sled that was well maintained with low easy miles at a fair price. Do your self a favor and at least TRY to fake that! That means no matter how much you like red bull or whether or not your buddy is an "amsoil dealer" that doesnt mean we all do or that we all want to advertise for them. We are are actually willing to pay a bit more for the clean sled, but if "Just got it out of storage" means I have to pressure wash the all pigeon **** off it cause its been in the barn all summer with out the cover on it, dont be pissed at us Lowball buyers who turn out to be no shows! A couple last tips, Its ok to say FIRM if its priced properly and your gettin a ton of calls. It is NOT ok to say FIRM if you are behind 3 house payments so thats what you have to "get out" of it. Translation, Your 1992 indy/zr/mx/vmax is not gonna save you from foreclosure! (see our house payment is current, thats why we have cash for a sled). Its also not gonna bring you enough cash so you dont have to take out the 18% loan on the new M1500IQgadesummitpex that is ready for pickup at the dealer Now, OBO, Very simple means Or Best Offer. doesnt mean "im only knockin 25 bucks off. if your gonna do that please see firm above> on a side note, if your sled is listed for say 3000 bucks and you get 16 phone calls offering $1800! That means your sled is worth about $2000 its ok to start a little high and work your way down to find out where the market is for your mahine but you gotta start within reason. if there is 62 of your sled on craigslist for $2500, yours is NOT gonna sell $4250 FIRM!!!!!!!! Now this info isnt for everyone, Most guys know how to find that sweet spot in the sale price that gets the machine sold in 30 days or less. But for those of you that have had you sled for sale for 7 months.........See ya at Haydays!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Sincerly Mr. CashBuyer

How about this in a sled buying and selling situation you are biased and the seller is biased. After you check it over start it and maybee take it for a quick spin to see if you really are interested. If you really want the right opion, Take it to a dealer and ask them to check it over. Also explain that you are buying it from a private seller and just want to see if it is goign to be reliable and get some facts to make an offer. Then you have an unbiased opion and an idea of what acually needs to be replaced and some dealer will do it for free if hey really enjoy their job and some will charce you at most 50 bucks, whick is cheaper than almost any repair you can make. It's not any different than buying a car really. When i bought my truck everyhting looked emaculate with 50,000 on it. So i didn't take it to my mechanic as i should have. I bouhgt it, then 500 miles later the tranny fell apart leaving me with a 3500 repair bill. This shows that a sled that looks amazing can still crap out. It's all part of buying a used sled.
Now go ahead and rip me apart for this but hey i'm probably totaly wrong since i'm only 16.

I should have read this whole thing before posting it is f***ing halarious. If you are a kid how have you had so many sleds. And when you put a bunch of **** on i never knew it was permanent. Keep the old stuff. When you sell it put the stock stuff back on and keep your stuff for your next sled. Once again this is the most entertaining thing i think i've ever read.

If someone has modded out to the max and it's clear they may not have known what they were doing, value goes way down in my book. I do disagree with the handguard comment being #1. That wouldn't deter me from a machine. I made a huge mistake buying a sled with pipes. Guy did a **** job and tuned the carbs like he had 2 brain cells. Ended up blowing my engine after 100 trail miles. A. Shouldn't have ridden it without checking the carbs. B. Won't ever do that again. Too many factors that are out of your control before you even put it on the trailer. Yes, even if a sled is stock, someone can still ride it like an idiot. People are more prone to trust stock over someone's home modifications, though. Yep, it's Sean. He seems to have a better head on his shoulder. He's not even 100 posts in, give him a break... Quote originally posted by Mad-Boondocker what was wrong that rev that was listed? Rev 500SS with an "older 600 engine" in it. Did he do the work? Did the dealer? If dealer, why not rebuild it? Why wouldn't you put the same year engine in it?? Too many factors on that sled.

There's a lot of ads out there that give you heads up ahead of time before you even bother calling the person, or scams that people do to rip you off because they made it so you wouldn't notice it, etc.
1. Keep away from MOST machines with handguards.
2. Keep away from sleds with big risers and freestyle bars.
3. Keep away from sleds that have big drop brackets in the rear for style, not ride.
These are all signs the sled has been beat.
4. Wehn da gramma of da adddddddddd lookss liek dis
Possibly an uneducated person making the ad
5. PEOPLE THAT PUT CALL OR "TEXT"! This one seriously drives me away from ads. Teens ( usually ) spoiled with cellphones that their parents gave them, and want you to text because they really aren't very serious about selling their sled, just sort of putting out there.
6. People that have there 2000 Z 440 with 8000 miles, ripped track, and missing seat, and say mint condition, or $4000, or trade for snopro 440/900.
7. The most annoying ones. The ones that have a riser, fly bars, have flipped the wheels on the sled so it only shows the black side, have removed all decals, and went to their local fair and bought a bunch of fox, monster, vp fuel, amsoil, and dc stickers and just randomly plastered them all over their sled that they have for sale, and have the can drilled with holes all through it, and sell as "Very fast mod sled, trade for firecat, snopro 440, rev 440/800, or something worth equal value" when in reality, their sled they've put all these "mods" into, is just a 2001 Z 570 that has had the crap kicked out of it for the past 2000 miles, with super tail heavy landings, and many failed sidehill attempts.
8. Ads that say "2005 F7, Red" and that's the whole ad. No price. No number, just the craigslist email.
Lets here what you hate. Next person start with #9 so we can get a big list together.
people that say they cant get pics
95 xcr 600 trip.

Yeah.. I never thought I'd see a 2-stroke sled advertised with a "race cam" either, but did..
95 - Storm 800 - Modded - AKA: FrankenStorm - Totalled near 100mph at Tug Hill!
96 - XLT/SP with Storm 800 trip/trip and now EFI - FrankenStorm II lives...
95 - RXL -- Sale Pending --
05 - Edge 800 long track - Stayin' stock for now..
---------------------------------------------
It made me more compassionate, more empathetic, more nurturing...
I FEEL LIKE I'M TRAPPED IN MY OWN WORST NIGHTMARE!!!
