That last one I posted just got back to me and said everything sounds really good and tight, it just won't stay running. $375 cash is as low as he'd go.
Good deal?

Sorry for the triple post here, but is the .20 over bore something to be concerned about? Bored out ATVs are usually something to run from.

The 500 is a good motor but I would wonder if the rebuild was only 1000 miles ago why did he have to put in a new head gasket? it may need more engine work. it does look like it is in good shape for its age.

Do you suppose he meant the chassis was rebuilt with the fox shocks and everything?

I would go take a look at that 94 XCR 440 for $750. Thats a nice looking sled. If everything looks good on it, offer him $650 for it, you will probably own it.

Is it really $300 better than that indy though with the plastic skis and fox shocks?

Now I wouldnt say that, I bored my Banshee this year to .40 over, I read and was told that they can go .90 before you have to resleeve, then the real fun starts. My buddy who got me into quoads and the shee has a stock motor, you can tell a big difference from his to mine thats .40 over. All depends what your using it for and if you did the bore and why it needed to be bored. I didnt need to go .40 over, I could have just went .10 over and put OEM pistons back in. It wasnt blown, the rings just didnt hold the pressure anymore, wore out. I wanted .40 over cause Vitos offered a piston kit that has the top of the pistons shaved on one side to act like porting and they had a sale going on that was cheaper then the OEM ones. Just my 2cents.

Which body style is better? The new Indy style, similar to the blue and black ones in that one post, or the wedge like the XCRs? I'd like doing some trail riding and a bit of lake riding as well. One better than the other?

How were the 99 XCFs? Sound pretty sporty.
1999 polaris xcf 440 - $900
i have a 1999 xcf 440 good running in good condition has 2600 miles on it after market handle bar riser and belly plate and a few other things
How about Hay Days? Are there some good, cheap deals to be had there? Or am I going to be out of luck with nothing to trade? I'm in MN so its certainly close enough.
Ideally, I'd like something sub $500! I know, I'm cheap, but give me a break, I'm a broke college kid. I've been told I need another expensive hobby like I need a hole in the head, but you only live once!

I just found an Indy 340 with a missing hood, but otherwise in great, running condition for $295. Do the 340s have any balls at all? I can't imagine they do.

340's do not really have any power neither does a 440 fan cooled sled
1998 Polaris Indy 500 chassis with 98 Xc 600 motor
SLP ceramic coated pipe with SLP can
V-force reeds
4 inch pivot riser
Gutted Air Box
EPI clutch kit soon to be installed
Maybe some pro tapers
1998 XC 700 water-cross sled
SLP twin pipes
Some light weight parts
Water-cross mods include taking the parts u do not need
This includes removing the seat replacing gas tank and IFS bars.

Well, here's the two that are still looking like good ideas.
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/rv...04089.html
http://stcloud.craigslist.org/rvs/1291729909.html
I was looking around the web and saw that the stock photo of the 1995 Indy 500 efi said Polaris Efi on the seat, which neither of these have. So perhaps they are the carb models? How's the power on these 500s? Are these body styles better than the wedges, or about the same?

The power on the 500's are really good As for the body style it is not ass good as the wedge but has some things that the wedge did not have. The body style is called Evolved made from 94-98 it is sometimes hard to find body parts I should know I have an evolved chassis with a 600 in it and they are hard to find body parts for them

I dont think I have seen this many sled on my last ride. Just take your green backs and head to Haydays. Best bang for your buck, you get to see the sled right there and if you need parts for it just take a walk and look around. You could sit here for 3 months and ask all of us what we think on every sled that is out on craigslist for sale...go to Haydays just my 2cents.

I'm planning on it. It'll be my 1st year going, so I wasn't sure what kind of deals to expect. From what I've been hearing on the Hay Days thread, they're good if you get there early. Plus, dropping 5 hundos on text books today took a little wind out of my sails. :(

Nah there were Indy EFIs all the way back to at least 1991, maybe earlier
BTW once you get your own sled, you will forget all about ATVing. The only time I can get snowmobiling off my mind is like may and june. My dirtbike if fun, and its a 2-stroke so that helps, but it just doesn't compare to snowmobiling
Ok, gotcha. So, what should I look for in the sub $1k range? Someone said the XCR 440s are nice? I found this one:
Polaris Indy XCR 440 - $750
Up for sale is my 94 XCR 440. Only 3300 miles, freshly rebuilt carbs, starts and runs very well. Very fun trail sled, does very well for its age and size.
Looks pretty clean in my opinion. But 440 sounds so slow!
Oh and we'll just see about forgetting all about ATVing! I am excited to hopefully get into sledding though.
you will forget quads belive me i did get that xcr 440 there nice to bad they dont come with extra 10 or extra 12
95 xcr 600 trip.

Would it be bad to get a 94 XCR 440? How inferior are they to the newer ones? I just found one with "carb problems" for $400 (I'd offer $300). Oh, I guess that one was a 94 as well.

If I were you, I would check out HayDays (as you said you planned on doing) and if you do not find anything there that you want then I would see if that XCF is still for sale. I know the 440 fans may not be the sled with the most balls but you will atleast have a better suspension than any of the other sleds you have listed.
