What free antivirus software do you guys recommend? My sister asked me and I have no idea what is good anymore as I think they are all spyware crap.

I don't use anti-virus software and I don't have problems; however, the best free version I've seen out there is AVG: http://free.avg.com/

I've been using AVG Free for a few years now. Seems to work fine. It also helps to simply be smart when browsing...

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

AVG. I have installed it on literally 500+ computers when I used to run a computer shop. Its a great AV, better than any that you have to pay for.

But like Eric said, I haven't even used an anti-virus for the past few years on my personal PCs, and I NEVER get any sort of virus or spyware. It is all about smart browsing habits.

Using firefox helps too.

I would say download Firefox and don't worry about it. Install Adaware and run it once a week or so. Once I installed Firefox on my windows machines I went from formatting 2 to 3 times a year to once every 2 years or so.

Like everyone has said AVG is a great product for free. I also recommend and Malwarebytes for Spyware removal, its also free. However it is not "Real Time" protection so it won't interfere with your installed Anti-Virus. Download it, install and run one a week or when ever you suspect a problem.
