So i just got my cylinders back from being replated and brand new wiesco pistons and all new gascets and new SS power valves. Put the pistons in and put the cylinder over them and tightened the bolts in an x pattern rotaing and slowly tightning with a torque wrench. Torquing at 30 foot pounds. And sure enough one of the bleepin studs broke. I dont know if it was a crappy torque wrench or what but its broke. Not the happiest after spending about a grand on it but now i dont know if i should split the case or try to take the broken stud out and put a new one in.

no its not. Its snapped about a quarter inch down. Im thinking i could use that reverse drill bit in a way but its not a drill bit. Its used for taking out bolts with stripped heads. And will that stud just twist right out?

now u can see what i'm talking about

I would split the case and bring the top half in to a machine shop and see what they can do.

You will want to split the cases, due to using an easy out, you will want to avoid getting any drilling crap into the bottom end.

Also is 30 ft lbs the tourqe spec! seems high to me

Fix it till its broke!

well none of the shavings are going actually into the crankcase. And no need to bring it to a machine shop because its just a stud. So if i do split the case i will be able to just replace it. Its just a pain to have to split it.

Take a couple rags and stuff them down into the bottom of the crankcase and tape over them with some painters masking tape.

Then drill and easy-out without worry. Once you're done wipe all the chips off the tape, then remove the tape, and rags, and there'll be no chips in the bottom of the crankcase.

I agree, this is what i do when i change my cylinder base gaskets to prevent the small piece's of material from going into the crankcase. I Also have my small shop vac running and move the hose to the area I'm working on/cleaning off to suck up any thing that could end up where i don't want it too.

Ya i would but i ended up breaking the easy out bit in there. So i'm taking the engine out and splitting the case. I'm going to have new crank bearings put in.
