Can some one tell me the length of the front suspension Xtra 10 shocks. I've added longer arms to my '93 XCR andneed to fing a shock to fit. The old Fox goldbody's are 13 1/2" hole to hole and I have a set of fox white body shocks from a '98 XCR 440 that had XC-10 but they are 15 1/2" eye to eye and are too long to work properly. With the front end mocked up without a shock it would seem that somewhere in the 14 1/4" to 14 1/2" would be perfect. Anyone have any ideas? I'd love to trade the XC-10 shocks if need be.

and your trailing arms are off what?

If your using using IFS xtra trailing arms the 13.5 is correct

If your using XC10 trailng arms 15.5 is correct

I don't know if you messed with steering and radius rods or not.

On the 93 all you have to do is install the 13.5 fox shocks and if you want the front end higher, tighten the adjusting nuts on the shocks. Also you can go to the 97-newer spindles that will raise the front an inch or so.

I've got radius & steering rods from a '96 XCR 600 SP, stock trailing arms and skis, spindles & steering arms from a '98 XCR 440. I checked again and the gold shocks are 13 1/4" and will be too short even with the spring tightened up. Think a set of Xtra 10's will get me in that 14 1/4" - 1/2" range. As that is where is sits now. I'll try to get some pics up tonight.

You can also shorten your shocks if you can't get enough travel. Is the trouble that the radius rods are hitting the bulk head? If so can you open that up a bit to give it more travel for the 15.5's.

15.5 is extra 10 crc and non crc

Here's whatI'm working on.

Thanks for the responces guys. How does one go about shortening the shock. Right now I have the XC-10 shock in with out the spring and it works fine. Can I cut the old spring to fit or use the older springs? I realize I'm sacrificing travel but could I remove the long bump stop on the longer shock also without damaging it? Thanks for the help again.

The 15.5 shock.......You did loosen the spring nut before trying to fit right? In your pic its tightenend almost completly

it is your tie rod interfering isn't it? Can't you open up the hole a bit? You shorten a shock while rebuilding by putting in a spacer. Don't cut a spring. Cutting a spring makes it stiffer. It could also coil bind with the travel of the shock.

The pic with the two shocks was taken before I started fitting as a comparison. With the 15.5 fully extended the tie rod is at quite an angle to the point I'm concerened about it working correctly not so much from rubbing. I have to get some more time to work on it but do you guys think it will actually fit or will it work compressed some?

you have too many mixed and matched parts going on for me to help anymore.

If I was doing it, I would have left the steering, trailing arms, radius rods alone, had some good gas shocks rebuilt, cranked up the shock nuts to bring the front up,newer style spindles(aftermarket plastic skis NOT Polaris), and a xtra 10 rear.....
I had a low riding 1993 xlt that I did the above to(except the xtra 10 rear, they were not out yet).....Made a huge difference after I realized KImpex gold shocks suck and are a waste of cash

I've already got the Xtra 10 skid installed out of the same '98 XCR 440. Are the plastic Polaris skis not that great? I've still got to play with it a bit more so I still haven't ruled out putting the stock rods back on and like you say keeping the tall spindles and rebuilding the Fox gold's. It's not snowing yet.

As for Poo skis.......look at your photo. If you are looking to bring the front up higher, your photo tells it all. Look at how much higher the spindle to ski bolt is on the steel ski VS. the Poo plastic. Don't get me wrong plastic skis rock,,,,I run SLPs and the bolt hole is higher like what is on the steel skis.
Poo came up with the taller spindles due to the low bolt location on their plastics. So ultimatly, for a higher front ride, a new style spindle and not using Poo plastic skis is the way to go.

You don't just want the front higher you want it wider. That means changing out parts. I did it to a 90 years ago. Made my own radius rods and tie rods and just made a sway bar extender. You will want c to c of the spindles at least 41 inches to put in the 15.5 shocks.

I just looked at my Dragon skis and the bolt hole on those is higher than older steel skis or even my SLPs. So to be correct I should say older Polaris plastic skis have low bolt holes.

Also you are trying to use Tipped In trailing arms on you non tipped chassis. In other
words your chassis the rear trailing arm bolt is outside the belly pan. The XC-10 were mounted inboard the belly pan....Not sure on the geometry diff. of the two or interchange....
The XC-10s are uncommonly known as tipped in trailing arms.

On my 93,,,,,I wanted it higher. They had no travel and no front clearance. After all the updates it was a completly
different sled.

if you don't widen it the thing will tip over in a stiff breeze

My goal is to widen and raise it to equal the rear. The trailing arms on it now are the stock originals as I knew the XC-10 arms would not work. I sat back and trid it again tonight with success. Without the shock the suspension travels freely up and down and once I got the shock in after backing off the spring nut completely and compressing the shock a bit it went in without much trouble. It doesn't seem to have any binding or clearance issues with the tie rod, both compressed or fully extended. I used the CRC aluminum steering arms upside down which seems to solve the clearance issue with the bulkhead. So far it appears that the front will sit a good two inches higher and have a ski width of 41" from the original 38". The only stock '93 XCR part left is the trailing arm. JB, do you see any issues the shock being a little compressed at all times?
