i did have a 80 gb and the same thing happened our hard dive froze
we called Sony and they said it would cost $149.99 to be serviced
well we didn't get it serviced but we went to best buy and bought a 320gb hard drive for $80 little to say we saved a lot of money and works fine and now we have a 320gb ps3

If possible, just switch out the hard drive right away. The OEM hard drive is a Seagate, and every Seagate I've ever owned had flaked out on me. Replace it with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6822136197 Western Digital are the only hard drives that I trust.
Not to mention you can fit a hell of a lot more music, movies, and games on a 320 gig drive. Other than the lousy Seagate hard drive dying on me, my legacy PS3 has worked flawless. Mine is from the first production run, with the Emotion Engine processor from the PS2 which means I can play ANY PS1, PS2, or PS3 game I want, without special software. Everything after the fisr two production runs switched over to the PS2 emulator which means you have to have software patches to play certain PS2 games, kinds like the 360 makes you do.
If I may make a suggestion, get Metal Gear Solid 4, if you've never played any other games in the series, the story line will confuse the hell out of you, but the game is phenominal.

Honestly, I was never away of any yellow lights on the PS3. But yes, it will prevent it. After a brief bit of research, I found that the yellow light signaled a hard drive error. Getting a better quality drive should prevent that. It wouldn't be a bad idea to back up your data every now and again just to be safe. But on the brighter side, the new drive will be covered by WDs 3 year warranty vs the PS3s 90 day warranty. Just like anything electronic, the WD drive can fail, but I've never experienced one personally, and the one's I have heard about failing were within the first month of operation, so you shouldn't have too much on it to lose at that point.

I would say not to worry about it its rare almost and if it does your going to upgrade the hard drive so you wont lose anything really. I have had mine for about 3years? well since they came out and i havent got it or its never once overheated and dont buy a intercooler all my friends that have have had problems ever since they bought it. If you can overheat a ps3 you either have no life or just really really bored lol.

Ps3 has a lesser chance than a 360. The wii Has the least chance

360 problem free? wtf are you smoking, only way it would be problem free is if you hit it with a ****in sledgehammer a couple times. and the ps3 has 1 problem and its rare ylod. hmmm 360 lets just start overheating problems, burning holes in discs(thats no problem at all....), rrod(not common but happens lot more then ps3), and finally not one person can say ps3 costs more actually costs less then any 360(figure in the hard drive)

the new 360s are much less prone to do this(unless you leave it in a confined space of course)

I highly doubt it and if he is idk what is wrong with him.
Also it sucks so bad that in the barely 3 years of ps3 compared to 360's close to 5 years, ps3 has 24million sales and 360 has 31million. HMmmmm i would say in 2 more years compare those sales to now and it would crush and...In my opionin of what i have saw and expierences with the brands microsoft is know for the cheap price (which if you look at all there products and years they have always had screw ups to fix that usually just get pushed out of the way with a newer system or like Vista....a new Os. Sony on other hand is know for quality and reliabilty..

well every body I finally got a message from yhe guy and this is what he said
"sorry for the late reply as we were out of town. However, we are sorry to announce that the PS3 System that you won had broken, therefore we cant continue to process it for shipment, and we will give you a refund as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience that may cause you."
I am so pissed at this guy I am leaving the first negative feedback I have ever left I think I can never find a good deal like I had with this one Any words of advice
