My buddy thinks his 97 arctic cat 580 twin with studs will beat my 95 polaris xcr 600 triple also studded. unfortunatly my sled bogs down when i start off the line. This is just because mines a triple right?

if your sled bogs its not because its a triple its because you have a carb problem

It should not bog even if it's a triple. It may be slower off the line and take a little longer to hit the powerband but it should not actually bog.

It probably is your carbs or crank seals my 500 had the same problem when i first got it As for the race it would be a close one it all depends how long the field is and who can put the power to the ground better

it might be rich. you could try try adjusting the air screw and needle. but check the clutches first..

I don't know, I lined up my dad's 580 against a 600 like that and it was close. Some clutching and gearing changes and the 580 would have won.

After you clean your carbs and check out and clean up the clutch, try syncing the carbs. I just got done with this and what a difference!! I had kind of a bog off idle too and now it's pretty snappy.

Provided it's not too cold where you ride you can drop your pilot jets down a size. If the machine is running rich on idle it will take a bit to lean itself out and get running where it should (the bog). Factory jets, in my opinion, are always too rich. The jets are only a couple of bucks and easy to change. If you are going to drive her, you might as well drive her well tuned. As stated before, look into the condition of the clutch(s) as well. Clutching is to snowmobiling as location is to real-estate.

I would just pull the carbs off and clean them, and while doing that check the jets, needles, ect. Not too hard to do and something that should be done on a yearly basis IMO.

Clean your carbs, makes a world of difference on a polaris. it also wouldnt hurt to take a look at your reeds while your at it.

No reeds on a 95....Its a piston port engine

96 was the 1st XCR6 (aggressive chassis) with the reeds

That's backwards... The triple should have more torque off the line than a twin.

Twins usually have more punch off the line and then triples will have a longer legs across the lakes. Normally thats how it ended up. But when it comes to wrenching and tuning, its anybody's game. WL

I would say clean and rebuild your clutches then put a new belt on and your problem will be solved.

I agree on the clutches, both should be cleaned and new belt. As for the carbs, a thorough cleaning and sync is required for what you are demanding out of the sled. I believe there is a thread somewhere buried deep in the archives about syncing in a carb; like a 5/32" drill bit, and a keen eye!!

I remember back in 97 when a couple friends of mine were racing the other had a '96 XCR 600 piston port and the other had a '97 mxz 583 and both sleds were stock and fairly new. on take off the doo had a ski length ahead but the XCR would run away before the mid range track and by the time they hit the 660' line the XCR had a about 2 sled lengths lead so I really don't know how the ZR would fair against the XCR. would be nice how it turns out though let us know how it goes.
