Hey I have a question for you more experienced mechanics. I have a 2001 Polaris XC SP 600 which I am putting a 136" length track with 2" paddles, I am ordering the Tunnel and rail extension kit for it. However, the problem is that I don't think I have enough clearance for the heat exchangers and paddle. Do I need to get the brackets which lower the suspension, or is it more in depth then that? Thanks

Use drop brackets in the rear skid mounts,
and for the front skid mounts they are there,
Look at the inside of the tunnel where the skid now mounts and you will see the template there to drill the lower hole.
This will all set up your paddle clearance and approach angle.

Now if you start eating belts, it will be a sure sign that you need to gear down for the larger track.
Just keep an eye on it and if this starts happening,
go 1 tooth smaller on the smaller gear.

I had an '02 xc, i did the same thing put a 136" on it. It worked just fine, never had any issues. Except when i stretched the back shock got weird. Not sure if for what ever reason I put the rear shock back in wrong or what? I could take the back end and push it up and down about 6-7" but it still rode fine in the powder. Good luck, hope I helped a bit.

Hey thanks for the response, so all I need is the rear brackets and the originals have an extra hole to drill out is that how it works? And the one tooth smaller gear, thats the top gear in the chain case right? I'm just getting used to taking apart my sled and don't know a whole lot, but I'm getting there.

Nice sled, I don't quiet understand what you mean when you said "when i streched the back shock got weird" thanks for the info, did you have to put the brackets on to get more clearance on the back?

You also might want to make sure the drivers are gunna be small enuff. On most of the short track conversions I have done, I have had to put on smaller drivers to make the lugs fit. On my Powder special I just shaved the cooling fins off. You might be ok though?

Ya, can I get my track notched or do I have to buy one that is? Also, I have the brackets on the tunnel and didn't know it, however I had other problems which needed tending to first-Mechanical issues. Thanks

There are a couple ways that I know of to get the clearance you need. You can drop and roll the chaincase which is a very in depth procedure that you would have to have a machinist do I'm sure. It pushes the chaincase back about 2", giving you the clearance. Or you could get smaller drivers. I Had to get 7 tooth drivers for my Indy chassis to fit my 144x2 under it.

1997 Rotax 670 (bored, ported, polished, head shaved .020")

Digital Tach
Aluminum Trailing Arms
Powder Skis
M1000 possibly in the future
