Ok I love shooting when there is no snow around to ride.
alot of guys have 25-06's here and they say they love them but I read an article about the 260 use for sniping as far as 1000 yards.
fall is already here up north and the caribou are at their best and that is my favorite game this time of year. my younger bro has a 25-06
though i never tried it but he loves it but i really like the fact that 260 is a short action but not too sure what the variaties are on ammo for 260. any info would be great.

The .260 Rem is a great gun, alot of guys use them for deer hunting down south so the variaty for ammo is very large. I have heard they are extremely accurate out to long distances, but have little experience this gun.
.25-06 is also just as good and has as much if not more kinds of ammo. I bought one for my girlfriend a few years ago and she loves it, I even get to borrow it sometimes for shooting coyotes. I have it set up to hit dead on at three hundred yards, but it is acurate well beyond that.

I spent months looking and deciding on a new rifle. The 260 was right at the top. For long ranges its a great round as it stays super sonic past 1000yds. and still has enough bullet weight to drop mid size game. Its a great round and there is tons of info on it at place like snipercentral(i belong too). It seem to be a popular range round for its flat trajectory and speed. I have no experience with it what so ever personally just info i have read while trying to make up my mind. Ammo is widely avaliable so if reloading is not your thing you covered there. I have read that the .260 round is loaded hot, this meaning its packed with as much powder as can safely be done and that the powder when fired produces lots of pressure and heat and that this can cause throat errosion and barrel ware. basically look to get about 2000-2500 rounds down the barrel before your accuracy would start to drop off. This is one of the prices you pay for having a great long range bullet.
not sure if i helped or not but check out some sniper or long range forums as they will be able to answer your ? on the .260 better due to th shear amount of load development and shooting those crowds do.
ps a .308 is a great round too.

Thanks for your response guys. Yeah about the 260 i know it is a hot round probly similar to the 22-250 round but that really don't bother me, you know it would be a great excuse to get a new gun again to the wife hehe ;). I wonder if remington has a heavy barrel 26" 260 in its line up because i didn't see one from cabelas in winnipeg. also about the 308, Im not too sure about it besides I already have 30-06 and its overkill to a caribou regardless of the range so ill leave my 30-06 for bigger games besides i always use it to shoot polar bears, walrus, baluga whales so im looking more of a medium caliber for the caribou. I always use my .204 on a caribou up to 300 yds. mainly head shots but there always comes a time when you don't want a head shot espically to a bull male caribou with massive antlers then I have to force my 204 to penetrate to the heart. so i think a 260 would do the job to the heart at mid to long range shots.

I have several high powered 22 rounds ,a 222 ,223 and a 220 swift ,the 220 swift is a 4,000 to 4250 feet per second muzzel velocity rifle ,you can load the 220 swift up to,if you have a newer gun all the way up to 4,500 fps ,since our houses, towns are grouped togeter more closly ,we use them to coyote, hunt and are not allowed to deer hunt with rifles
