Hey all!
Im new to this site. I was wondering which paints work best for painting exhaust pipes. Mine are pretty rusty so I figured I'd sand it down and paint it up before winter gets here. Which paint have you had luck with?
I've seen other posts on the site about ceramic coatings and whatnot but I think that may be a little out of my price range. Any suggestions? Also, if high temp paint will work, Advance has 500 degree high temp paint and 1200+ high temp paint. The 500 degree is a few bucks cheaper....will it work or just flake off like ive read in other posts?
Thanks!

I used 1200+ on my pipe last year...yea it didn't last too long. I was pretty pissed to because I followed the instructions in every way and still had no luck with it. I forget what brand it was I'm sure I have a can lying around somewhere so I will let you know so I recommend what not to use. You can also ask ArcticCatMatt about this I read a coupled posts from him about this and I think he eventually got it figured out after a couple tries.

I have tried the 1200* paint. It burned off the manifolds but held on the pipes.

I have used the 1200 paint on pipes on some older cars and a bike and I haven't had any problems the paint at all.

I not sure what brand all I remember is that I bought it at Ace Hardware so it was probably their Ace brand paint

I used the 1200* paint too. I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS and maybe..50 miles later it was back to a rusty color again. I was pretty pissed about it. I'd suggest sending your exaust to Bikeman Performance(BMP). They do ceramic coating that's guaranteed to last. You just need the money;)

I took my manifold pipe and acid-dipped it and blasted the rest and painted them with the 1200 paint. I have to respray every couple months, but they aren't rusting anymore.

did it to a few pipes, worked good. ceramic based 2000 deg stuff, i forget the name. we put a coat on, and hung the pipe with a heat gun in the end for a while, put another coat on and again, heat gun (letting cool in between), then finished it off with a third coat and then a coat of 1200. seems to be holding great, over 1000 miles no problem..

RUST-OLEUM High Heat 2000 degree
Blast your pipe's and manifold's to clean metal, before painting.
Then you'll just have minor clean up and touch up yearly. (Mostly from any salt spray you pick up.)
