Look on the tunnel there should be a metal plate with numbers on it that tell every thing about the sled. I know on my Indy 650 and the xlt 600 it is on the right side by your foot.

We thought to look on the side of the tunnel, the tag is normally on the right side.I think but no tag on either side not even any marks where a tag was. Where else might a tag be located if there are any? I'm out of ideas as of where to look for a vin to find out more about the sled. Makes it real hard if he needs parts.

Wow that is weird. That should make registering it interesting. I am not exactly sure how you could tell what it is with out it. Good luck.

You need the VIN from that missing tag, to register the sled.

I'd guess it's a 94-to-96 indy 650.. It's carbed (with air box), red heads, and xtra-10 suspension if I see it right..

Hard to tell from such small pictures.

95 - Storm 800 - Modded - AKA: FrankenStorm - Totalled near 100mph at Tug Hill!
96 - XLT/SP with Storm 800 trip/trip and now EFI - FrankenStorm II lives...
95 - RXL -- Sale Pending --
05 - Edge 800 long track - Stayin' stock for now..

The engine shows to be a '92 or earlier Indy 650 engine. RXL engines had EFI, not carburetors. Unless somebody put carbs on an RXL engine. Either way, it's not an XLT, which had a monoblock triple.

91 or older indy 650. 2 peice seat makes it an older model indy.

I would say it's a 88 or 89 indy 650. They were very good sleds.

put and xtra-10 under the rear, and put some front spindles out of a 98 xc and you'll have a great sled

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN XLT 650!! people are so stupid... its not an rxl. it is a 650, polaris made the 650's between 1988 and 1992. look at the cylinders, their is a casting on the block usually, or a sticker on the recoil cover. there should be a bunch of numbers, the first two numbers are the year the motor was made (assuming the motor hasnt had replacement parts put on)
its obvious plenty of parts have been replaced on this sled. no decals on the hood usually means the hood had been damaged and the owner bought a used black hood with the incorrect graphics so he peeled them off. OR, it means that some CYI thinks he is the next sno-cross racer and wanted the decals off. because the sled is so old, you dont know what is original and what has been added/replaced. to the guy who said he thought he saw xtra10, that doesnt help identify the sled at all. lots of people upgraded the early 90's sleds with xtra10

1999 Polaris XC 500
-holeshot skid plate
-fox reservoir front track shock
-fox front shocks
-xenon low-beam bulb (very helpful at night)

Just add gas and snow!
