Well, i got a call/email from my dad today since im in college telling me that he started to hand polish the tunnel. Both sides have been gone over already and some elbow grease, half of the mothers polish, and 10 old shirts later, the first initial layer of corrosion is off. To be honest, i'm very pleased how it came out. It looked terrible before, i put off doing it and got behind. The 2nd time is coming up with a mothers powerball then a final polish should make it a mirror finish.

Now, to just get the motor rebuilt too now.....

looks good, I did that 1 year also. Lasted about 2 rides. I gave up after that just not worth all the hard work for it to only last a few rides.

I have that done to my sleds and love how it classes them up.

^^^ Mine has always lasted at least half the year in my experience with it. I usually do it in the fall in late jan when it quits snowing for a while and in the spring.

Thanks guys for all the comments. I have yet to see it in person since my dad did it, but am looking forward to it! If my dad doesn't im going to go over it again to do a final cleanup/polish and keep up on it from now on.

My dad told me he took about 5 hrs. The tunnel was very oxidized as you can see and he did it all by hand to get in between the tunnel supports and all the little cracks as well. The powerball was used for the tunnel extension and other flat surfaces. Like xcr said, the powerball doesn't work well on sleds like the pro-x with all of the bracing. The rivets and other fasteners/grips chew it to pieces.

Man, i can't wait to finally ride.

Thanks James. I honestly can't say i would trade this sled straight up for a new IQ switchback (not including the assault, though). I have a lot of time and upkeep invested into it and in my eyes, i have the best of both worlds: A long tracked, race bread, good looking reliable and durable sled.

Turned out decent for a first time. The more you polish it, the better it will get.

I spent a full weekend to get mine to a decent mirror shine (looks better in person). It also took quite a few choice beverages, and I was trying a variety of polishes. I sealed it up with some Zaino Clear-Seal. From what I've read, it will give you more time between polishes...makes the shine last longer. Spendy little bottle though. We'll see how well it works this winter I guess!

Looking good pro-x700.

It was kind of a ritual for me to buff the tunnels on my bro in laws pro x (which was totalled in a accident trailering it late last year), my pro x (which my brother in law owns now)and my brothers ol 01 800 xc for many years. This is what I have found works the best. First of all, nothing works better than a 3 inch matco high speed air buffer, NOTHING. Especially how the pro x tunnel has the braces and all. First I would hit it with 3m heavy compound to get most of the oxidation off, change pads then hit it with 3m finesse compound, you will go through a few pads - then hit it twice with mothers billet or speedy. Speedy seemed to have the best results. Seems like a lot of work, and it is, but they all came out to a mirror everytime. Also, add a little flour to your towel when you whipe the resido off, it helps A LOT! I've tried the power balls and they are absolute junk for the pro x tunnel if you want to get it like a mirror. If you lived close I would let you use my buffer :)

Thats very true, i did do that a few years ago when i cleaned the tunnel up a bit. It was a noticable difference. Im going to try some 0000 steel wool and some polish first to clear up the rest of the oxidation then do a final polish.
