Dont bother if your not going to extend your track you wont make it anywere. But if you were going to do some old guy trail riding then go ahead with what you got just rejet.

You obviously know nothing about mountain riding, why should this person spend up to $2000 on a long track just to go and ride the mountians one trip
You know at one time a 121 track was the 2nd longest track avalible, and yes they went to the mountians, the sleds heavier and with less power than his Cat
The most constructive thing you could have suggested was to rent a sled, but you think a rejet is all that is needed! good one

I was meaning get a longer track if hes going off trail otherwise hes fine on trails.didnt meen to be an ass jeez

Also i know alot about mountain riding dick head. Considering thats all i do.
SXMTX- Wow, for 15 years old you must a wealth of knowledge about the mountains and riding; false. You drive out their yourself and do all your riding there? Oh wait, you can't drive, which means your probably stuck to riding the patch of grass in front of your house waiting for your parents to come home so you can ask them. Grow up, and when you have something informative to post, then type.

King of Kings- You will be fine if ride a lot of trail or poach tracks that have been ridden over a few times. Don't expect to break trail or go too far. What you will learn is that your gonna be much more tired than those with longer tracks and that you will really need to put some body english into your sled to make it do half the stuff a mountain sled can do. Make sure you never park up hill even at the slightest degree, it might be a good idea for you to park down hill unless your on hardpack. Two, take your time when your out there to get used to the difference in elevation. You wont be able to breathe as well as usual. Three, really learn to work your throttle, dont bury yourself out there by pinning it all the time or your gonna be stuck at all times.
I guess its not possible for someone to have a cabin out west and also maybe i just go with a few people

just a constructive question for ya sxmtx, but what makes you think you know ALOT about mtn riding other than the fact that you ride there, cause your replies seem to prove otherwise.

Oh yeah. And besides the avalanche aspect I wouldn't bother with a shovel especially with a 121. I have to be damn stuck withy 163 to bother getting my shovel out. Just roll it over out of it's hole and you'll save alot of work.

You can tell everyone is ready for snow in this thread!

If you and your dad dont want to rent and want to ride your short tracks i would just go to the Black Hills. We go there every year and find plenty of snow pack, meadows, hills, boondocking, you name it. You can also take a short track to 85 percent of places out there. Granted you wont be climbing the hills like the long tracks and you really gotta be working hard to keep track spin to a minimum and momentum going its a good time out there.

thanks for the info and a lot of sarcastic remarks. If we do go and it's a big IF, I will consider renting a mountain sled the last day but I don't want to go overbore here. Just some simple adjustment will do for me. I have ridden my sled long enough to know what it takes to keep her afloat. Another question, about how high can I go with a handle bar riser without cable extentions or is that a must for all riser heights.

-To ride or not to ride, what a stupid question!
-You should never judge a guy until you have walked a mile in his shoes, then you are a mile away and have his shoes
-Ice, snow, or grass, I'll still kick your ass.

i rode a 99 zr 600 efi out west short track and 7/8", it did all right, couldn't climb with the long tracks but still had fun doing what i could, deep snow was ok, one thing i would really say is once you jetted it correctly (assuming carb), i'd really pay attention to clutching, i had the recommended weights in but i should have adjusted my secondary a hole, it would have been a little better, lost power towards the top of the hill. the quote from above is absoletly correct, take a snobunji they work wonders on level ground, shovel for digging off a side hill. even if all you do is ride trails out there, it is a neat place to see, but the more you get off the trails the more you'll see. have fun

^^^Thanks, it is carbed and I don't plan on climbing steep grades. Going to mostly ride trail and some off trail. I am reclutching, rejeting, and possibly regear along with a riser. I also put on a 1 3/8" track.
