i have built a few steel comp ramps for my buddys compound. I can tell you right now for the angle that ramp is you need the ramp to be way longer, your not gonna launch properly cause your suspension won;t compress and rebound smoothly. keep your angle but incoporate about another 10ft in that ramp will make load forces much better on the ramp also, its not gonna flip on ya when you hit it.
you can build a steel ramp frame for a reasonable price. as long as you got somebody who can make good welds you don;t need lots of material and less material means less cost. spend the minor extra buck for steel and you save yourself the money spent on fixing a totaled sled from tryin to hit that wooden one.
i ride where its steep n' deep :P

first of all. the angle of the ramp is 42 degrees at the top. just like every other comp ramp. and they are the exact comp ramp plans so theirs nothin wrong with the angle.. and the way we got this idea is from here on snowmobile fanatics. some guy built one a few years ago and he said its worked fine for him for all these years without any problems whatsoever.

i would hit an all wood ramp all day long...with an RC car! I would at least put quite a few more braces in there, screws not nails, and it prob wont last too long anyway.

I hope your building that in the spot you plan on jumping it from, because by the time you add the amount of bracing you'll need that thing is going to weigh a ton, and like mentioned before is going to weaken when you try and move it..
I hope you have a michelin man suit..

everything looks fine angle/design wise with that ramp as long as its built to the scs comp ramp specs. SHould be approx 7 ft tall and 20-22 ft long. 40 degrees is not that severe its actually pretty mellow. It is still intimidating for the first hit.

The plans are proven, it wont flip over. u dont have to hit these ramps as fast as you would think. Brace that thing a ton and keep a close eye on it. Just start small, and make sure you have a safe landing! build it atleast 10ft tall by 40ft long.
heres some pics of our ramps/landing to show how big landings should be compared to ur ramp.
-superkicker (2 ft taller, 10 degrees steeper)
-superkicker left, comp on the right note landing size.

Quote originally posted by jonny_little94 are you trying to insult me quinlan!? haha cause if i were you.. id keep my mouth shut! Nope, or at least not consciously. I was making cracks at people who reply to a subject they have no true experience in. ie. never gone off a comp style ramp. Alot of people here have never had such a privilege. And why should I keep my mouth shut? I've launched my sled multiple times...both my SnoPro and ZR actually. I was being highly sarcastic in my initial post saying I had never hit a ramp before!

Anyone saying that ramp is too steep or the wrong angle doesn't know WTF they're talking about. If you know the difference between the couple of popular ramp designs, you can tell that it's a comp ramp profile, which is perfect for your first ramp. A super kicker is a lot steeper and it's pretty much the standard for freestyle comps & demos. The most important thing is being able to build a big enough landing.
I'm a little unsure about the wood, but hopefully it's sturdy and lasts at least a season for these guys.

If you cant afford steel, I'd try to get some iron plating, or even some rebar and mount it to the main frame supports ( like the front, back, and middle boards ), just for ensured strength. Iron or rebar wont cost you that much and will be worth it.
I think it looks pretty good

If those are deck screws you are using, make sure you check them OFTEN!! They are made to hold wood horizontal. They hold up great when pressure on them runs in the same direction but when you have side pressure, they snap very easily.
Hope you meant lag screws.

I think its just the wood that makes the angle look so steep, ya know? Used to seeing a smaller metal tubing, then a 4" piece of wood, its just more material to look at. Hope it works out for 'em.

they arent decking screws. but on all the joints and spots that will be taking most of the pressure has a 2x4 going from it to the bottom of the frame. so the screws arent really taking much of the pressure. here is just another pic of the ramp. we put 3 sheets of plywood on so far. ramp with plywood on it.

Yeah dude I have a wooden ramp in my backyard they work pretty good. After the first season you may want to put some more decking on it though. In my opinion you may want to add some more bracing. If you want to really learn how to ramp take a trip up to the evo sled park this year.
Two pic's of my first time hitting the comp ramp up at the evo sled park.
Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!
