Well I have been walking around the dealership and have bee standing on 2 sleds that I like, A pro-x2 700 and a 03 f7 It is to late to buy one know because the prices are climbing, The goal is next season is that I will have an f-7 or a pro-x 2 I am just wondering what are the pros and cons of each machine and a reason why you would buy one of the either choices I already have about 1200 saved up for a new sled I know that I will need about 2200-2500 for both I plan on buying the 03 versions because they are cheaper I just do not know what to buy you Fanatics are the only people that can give me a good honest answer and before you think that i hate my Polaris I don't it is just that a 98 evolved 500/600 is a dinosaur compared to the 2000 and up machines because the technology has changed so much and The newer machines have more stronger parts that can take a good beating.
1998 Polaris Indy 500 chassis with 98 Xc 600 motor
SLP ceramic coated pipe with SLP can
V-force reeds
4 inch pivot riser
Gutted Air Box
EPI clutch kit soon to be installed
Maybe some pro tapers
1998 XC 700 water-cross sled
SLP twin pipes
Some light weight parts
Water-cross mods include taking the parts u do not need
This includes removing the seat replacing gas tank and IFS bars.

I'm a firecat guy, but honestly, i'm not a fan of the 03 F7's, I've just heard too many horror stories, I know some people have them and have had nothing but good luck with them. But if it were me and 03 was the only year you were buying, i would go Pro X. You won't be as fast up top but you are going to get a hell of a ditch banger.

I have an 03 F7 and i'll probably never sell it. I've owned a Pro-X a few years ago and it was JUST alright. I'd take the Firecat over the pro-x though. It does'nt matter if it's an 03 or an 06. They are both good sleds! It's just a personal preference I guess. There will be a lot of people telling you to take either.

If the '03 has the updates done to it I wouldn't be afraid. They are suppose to be the fastest F7's around.

Every f7 ive rode has never felt any faster than my pro-x. Sure on top it may beat mine, but 0-60 it gets destroyed and they all feel tippy and every bump you hit feels like your going to get bucked off. It does not feel like a confident sled at all. I have ridden at least 4 different f7s from 2004-2006, sno pros and non sno pros, all of which i felt the same about. They are not for me and i will take a pro-x any day of the week for agressive trail riding/ hitting beaten trails/mogals. For top end, maybe an f7, but to me thats all they are better then the pro-x at. Also, these f7s were set up fairly well, they werent your average stocker. They were properly clutched and dialed in for the most part.

If you want top speed I'd go with the F7, if you want a ditch banger, I'd go with the Pro-X.

Either will be a good sled. Issue will be finding an x2 next year.

Just the downfall of the x2 is ust the trailing arms as apposed to independent suspension

how is that a down fall??? Last I checked the prox had an independant suspension also. a-arms are not all that. Yes they work well and alot of peolpe like them. There are still the diehards that won't ride a sled with them. Becasue of the tippy feel at first.

I've ridden quite few F7's and I think the ride is great, I don't mind feeling the bumps cause if i did i should be riding a touring. People can argue as much as they want but a stock F7 up against a stock pro X? The F7 will have quite a bit more top end. My cousin has an XC SP 700, which is about the same motor I think, and my brothers F7 runs circles around it and he'll admit it.

No one is disputing the fact that a f7 will be faster on top end then a pro-x. The pro-x has a very different track approach angle and the suspension is calibrated for moguls/jumps/rough trail, not top end. There are many things that go against the pro-x in straight line speed, but those changes make for one hell of a tough sled that is very quick corner to corner and out of the hole. I'll take that any day over a straight line sled.

Personally i would go with the Pro-X
they are solid sleds and built to be abused.

I wouldn't say an F7 is a straight line sled. I don't find the F7 that hard to ride fast in tight trails, everyone says they are tippy, but I have never thought it was going to flip.

I bought my F7 last year, and everyone told me it was tippy, it was hard on bumps, tough in tight trails. after 1 1300mile season I can say they were all WRONG, coming off my MXZ670, the F7 never felt tippy not even at first ride, I absolutely love how it handles, ride tight trails it's perfect. I wouldn't trade it for anything. My brother has an Edge X and it is equally as great. I also ride motorcycles, Jet-ski, and wheelers so maybe I was used to tippy-ness, idk. With what ever sled you buy, have the suspension set for your weight, riding style, and trail style, run good skiis'/carbides & track and you'll have a comfortable, able machine. whenever I hear someone say a certain sled rides bad, I usually assume the suspension is shot or not set up right. Buy what you like. My next sled will be a Polaris only because the dealer is in town, my cat dealer is 45 minutes away. Pro-X or F7 you can't go wrong

Quote originally posted by Mad-Boondocker I thought 04 pro-xs were called the the pro-x 2? No, in 2004 there were 2 differnt versions. Actually 3 if you include the pro-xr. There was the "regular" pro-x that was a continuation of 2003 with different graphics, then in 2004 they came out with the pro-x2 as well that added the shorty seat, a hallow driveshaft and different graphics/shock package (walker evens which BTW sucked that year and had major problems blowing out). those were the minor differences. The pro-xr however is a true breed race sled that is pretty rare. It has the race chassis and ergos, but they dropped a consumer liberty 800 motor in it to be more reliable and less finicky than the 440 race motors. get the pro-x or pro-x2 if your going that route. The xr's are nice but they are big $$$ for a 2004 and are pretty rare.

Let's just put it this way...if your an avid Polaris rider, take the Pro-X. If your an AC rider or you want to give AC a try(Vice Versa), take the F7.

Quinlan is a little disappointed that he received HMK Highmark 4 boots instead of the Highmark Pros as he had anticipated...

The Firecats are not rider forward...I don't care who says different. I went from riding my SnoPro (which is rider forward) to my buddies F7, and the difference was night and day. The F7 felt closer to my ZR than it did the SnoPro. Just my experience I guess...
They are both great sleds in my book. I would personally go for the better value, looking at both cost and overall condition of the sleds. The X2's are a bit harder to find though.

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion.
Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

woodbooga: (WOOD-boog-ah), n. regional dialect, common to areas of New Hampshire and Maine including the towns of Ossipee, Alton, Farmington, Acton, and Lebanon; one who attempts to obtain free firewood to fuel woodburning appliances in an effort to mitigate expenses related to home heating with fossil fuels. Frequently used as a term of derision by non-woodburners who mock the presence of loose bark and other wood waste in the beds of their pickup trucks.
