I'm looking into my options, I may have a new job where I'll be traveling a lot, and it's time for a new truck with 220,000km on my Sierra. I'm looking at the 2010 Ford SVT Raptor. It's exactly the kind of truck I want, but..it's a Ford lol. I'm a little worried about hauling the sled in that shot box tho, and the ATV. Anybody here haul a sled or ATV in a 5 1/2 foot box? The sled is my 09 Crossfire, and the ATV is an 05 Yamaha Grizzly 660.

I've hauled my SnoPro in my Ford a few times. I believe it has a 6'5" bed or so, BUT, I have an under-rail tool box that sticks out probably 18-20" or so, right up to the where the fenderwells start. I would not have wanted to go too far with it in there. Anything longer and I think it would almost be past its tipping point.

I've also hauled my Raptor in the same manor. With the tailgate down, it just fit. Strapped it in and away I went. I think your Grizzly might be tight though.

Just my two-bits. I thought I had a picture of my Snopro in my pickup, but I'm not seeing it...

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

it should fit the atv in there no problem, just have to leave the tail gate down and strap it in, not a big deal.
the crossfire might hang out past the tail gate by a few feet, but if you strap it in propoerly, it should work.
good luck
the raptors are insane trucks
wont be dissapointed with buying a ford ;) haha

My worry about the ATV is that it will sit on the tailgate and bend it, and the sled like Quinlan said about it being past it's tipping point. I haul the sled 3 hours on the highway on a regular basis.

Hopefully it won't bend it, the tailgate on my sierra is just to say bent, and nothing every really sits on it.

I have a 5 1/2' box on my '08 GMC Sierra. My sled fits in there with no problem at all. I have a 121" track though, and the track hangs out about 6" past the tailgate with the skis pressed up against the front of the box. Your Crossfire should fit in there just fine, it'll just hang out over the tailgate a little more. You'll be no where near the tipping point. What I usually do is put the sleds parking brake on, and run a strap from each side of the rear bumper to the tie down in my box. That's been more than enough to keep my sled in place. If you wanted, you could run straps through the A-arms and pull down on the front end if you were worried about it tipping out.

I'm guessing your current Sierra has a bow in the tailgate, right? My dad had a '99 Chevy 2500 for 200,000 miles, and his tailgate ended up with a slight bow it it as well. The tailgate on my '08 Sierra is far heavier and quite a bit stronger. The tailgate on a brand new F-150 should be no different, the only way you should be able to bend your tailgate with a brand new truck is if the 2 cables holding the tailgate up snap, and it falls down on the bumper. Or if you drop some absurd amount of weight on it.

Hauling the ATV with the rear axle on the tailgate would actually be a better situation, tailgate bending wise, than the sled. The ATV will distribute the weight over 2 points, and much closer to the mounting/pivot points of the tailgate. The sled actually concentrates all of the load right down the center of the tailgate, but it also shares the load with the bed. Neither situation should be anywhere near the weight capacity of the tailgate.
