I've been thinking of the possibility of starting a new website, something along the lines of "being green". Although I don't really like the term "being green" (morons use it without knowing what it even means), I like the idea behind it. Not so much because I care about the environment, but I care about efficiency which means costs savings, etc, etc.

The site would focus around ways to be green. I can imagine topics about heating systems, alternative energy / heating sources, ways to conserve energy to equal big savings, buying "green" products, manufacturer discussion, etc. Any ideas if something like this would take off? I like the topics around here (particularly ones ACM starts) about saving energy and whatnot. Figured it would be something people are getting into and definitely things out there to learn about.

Any ideas what a guy could call such a site? Do you think it's worth the effort?

I think it would be a great idea. That could because I work in Environmental Research and Development though. It could lead to so many opportunities for people to find ideas on how to go green or ways the industry is/has gone green already. So many manufactures are being pushed to do every thing to run green. Like where I work we devlop clean burning diesel engine after treatments systems all the way to Eco-friendly flat screens TV's. In the recent 5 years this topic has become every ones main goal to find more ways to be “Green”. One big issue is to generate power with no harmful bi-products to the environment. The strange one I read about is a plant that produces their electricity from algae. This would be a good Idea and with this economy and timing depending on the scale you go with it the site can really take off. Though it can attract some real crazys............

You are talking about a discussion forum right? Will it be more geared towards a cost management (money savings via efficiency), or a more "environmental awareness" site? Either way, you have the knowledge and experiance to make it work..

Sounds like a good idea if it is more geared towards "how can I save a buck". I think that we really need to go back in time for the most part, and then use the technology today to save a few bucks.

A good site that I visit on occasion is lifehacker.com . not so much going green but has alot of good ideas on normal every day things.

Just make sure you have ACM as the main mod there...I know he will have the most posts.

I think the name has to be one that will do it's best not to scare people away or attract lunatics. I used to subscribe to Mother Earth News years ago. I enjoyed it. There was always something interesting featured. That rag may be a good source of ideas?!

You are just going to have to brainstorm.
This makes me think of inovation which makes me think of Ben Franklin, etc... - He helped in the making of a big transition from the old world to a new. Renaissance- Leonardo DaVinci
" Modern day Ben Franklin"
Efficient, savings, economical, earth friendly, inovative...and so on.

Really think your on to something!

LOL yea - pretty sure that's how things would go with ACM. Haha

The focus of the site would lean more towards "money savings via efficiency, how to save a buck, etc" vs. "I want to be green because I care about clean air, etc". Though we would discuss those "green for nature" topics, I'd imagine most discussion would be about things that help save money because they are "green" or discussion about products that claim to be green and aren't, etc.

Trying to think of a name but it isn't going well.

tirckpaint has it, you want a name that doesn't scare people away because of all the tree hugers associated with "green" but still catches attention.

savingreen.com or .net are available lol, few more woodchucks and i might become a bit more "creative".

I'm the same way. I certainly don't spend my money on practical things most of the time but finding an efficient means of doing things interests me as well.

Look at all the ball busters come out of the woodwork!

I like the idea of course but there a million sites out there already it seems that pertain to that stuff. I looked into it a bit 6 months ago or so (when I made that huge list thread) and when googling and looking around there were a huge ton of sites already.
