99 700 xc sp
Ok I just bought and installed a new 1 1/4 ripsaw track for this sled and it hooks up much better than the stock one did but I am debating on whether or not I should stud it if so how many what type of pattern? I do ride pretty hard if that makes a difference
I have bought some parts for it also and im getting them installed next week, red spring, new helix, boost bottle and a power pack. Is this gonna add to my performance quite a bit? what else can I do to get this puppy quicker and faster without spending a fortune?
I have heard that the 98 700xc was a beast and not a whole lot aof sleds could touch it what made this such a hotter sled than mine can I beef it up to that sleds performance and if I can should I? Does gutting the air box make a difference and should I do it?
I want this sled to beat my uncles 08 adrenaline 800 but I dont wanna blow up my sled doing it.
99 500 xc sp
I think it runs rich it burns alot more oil than my 700 and it seems to fowel plugs or it just runs bad once it gets warmed up. I can get it up to 70 pretty good but it takes it a mile and a half or so to get it up to 90 95 on the dream meter going across the lake. Im pretty sure the guy I bought it from did not take care of it cause the carbides were worn through to the skis. my uncles other sled is a 03 ski doo 500 touring sled and it takes my 500 not by much though.
this sled is stock and will remain stock besides the 96 studs I bought for it. My question is should I be able to go quicker than it does?

I would leave the airbox as is, I did it on mine and about the only thing I noticed is you can hear the carbs sucking more. I would start with what you have for mods now, keeping an eye on jetting, you will notice a difference! I don't know about studs, I took mine out, then added a long track. The 98s had just a little different setup, different cylinders thats why, I believe, they were faster, but they also had some troubles with that. And on the 500, not sure, but with the oil burning, maybe you need to adjust the oiler cable?

stud it IF you run on icey hardpack trail. I personally stud all of my stuff but that's me. I stud on the error of safety more than anything else. I put in less than recommended and have have very good luck on ne tear outs. If you are going to stud only put them in the middle.

If you are just doing the clutching stuff along with the boost bottle and powerpacks....you should be ok but you certainly want to keep and eye on jetting. If you keep the stock pipe/can combo, you are probly good on jetting depending on the temps. you run in. Leave the airbox alone if these are your only mods....just won't do anything but lean it out. Have fun and ride that pig.
Polaris...it IS the way out!
