I stand firm behind my HMK products! I know my pack is a little small for the frequent mountain riders, but for flatlanders like myself, it seems fine. I wear it pretty much every ride, and usually don't know I'm wearing it. I don't have any storage on my sled, so my pack has to old everything from spare gear (gloves, hat, face mask, etc), to tools (small ratchet set, wrenches, pliers,...), to sled parts (belt, plugs, oil,...), then the survival essentials for those "just incase moments" (shovel, saw, matches, lighter, beverages, energy bars,...). One key factor for comfort is both the waist and chest straps...keep the pack from moving as much as possible.

1996 Ski-Doo FormulaIII 600

A mountain lion roaming the prairie found a bull, killed it and ate the entire bull. With a heavy belly, unable to walk, the lion laid in the tall grass moaning and roaring. Soon a hunter, attracted by the roaring, shot and killed the lion. Moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut!

I love my HMK backpack(it's not the one in my avatar). I always have it on me. I ride the mountains, it holds most of my stuff fine, I store some other stuff on the sled though.

Here's a list of stuff I usually have in there:

Couple space blankets
Fire starting essentials
Extra trail maps
Compass
Knife
Empty soup can
heat pads
Two extra baclavas
Two or three extra pairs of gloves
Two extra pair of goggles
Piar of socks
GPS
SPOT Messenger
Shovel(with saw) and probe on the outside of the pack.

Other stuff I'm forgetting I'm sure.

I haven't used it riding yet but a recruiter buddy of mine gave me a sweet national gaurd backpack. More compartments than I would know what to do with. Won't match real well but I'll let the sleds behind me worry about that.

I used my hunting back pack once last year, had a slight coolant leak and had it fixed so I had to carry extra liquid with me, didn't really feel it but it did have a strap at the bottom.

I've got a FLY racing pack. It has a blader in it. With a tube that runs up the right strap to your chest. The only bad part about it is you have to blow back in the tube to clear the water. Other wise it will freeze on you. It has about 4 strips of 2 inc foam on the the back and 2 straps that go around you to hold it in place.
The blader holds 2 liters of liquid. has a shovle on the out side. The shovle has saw in the handle. I've been useing it for 4yrs now and love it.

Thats just the back pack my dealer had a package deal on them when I bought it.
I'll try to post some pics of mine.

Lowe Alpine is what I'd recommend in packs. I've got a few others, but for supreme durability and comfortable convenience you can't beat the Lowe.

No dealerships have them available? Strange they'd be sold out. As a side note, they are relatively inexpensive too.

I live in Maine and ride mostly trails but travel off trail a little and there have been times that I was really happy to have a shovel. I ride during the week alone a lot after work.
