Just got home from a 3 hour round trip to pick up my new project sled for this winter.. Found a XLT in great shape. Tons of extras! SLP front ski's, pipes, and can. Custom paint job. Tunnel extention, and rail extenstions and a 1.25 track in great shape. Will take pics of it tomorrow, and post them up.
The bad news is it needs a crank, and primary clutch.
The good news is I only paid $250 for the sled
Let me know what you guys think and I need ideas for where to find a crank and clutch. I'm not really sure what yr it is for sure.. If it's a 1995 or a 1996.. The name plate was painted over, all but the ser. # It looks like it has an Xtra 10 rear, but the front control arms only say IFS xtra on them... The rear's mounting bracket seems to far back to be the same era xtra 10 I put into my xcr. Like I said I will take pics tomorrow and post them so you guys can see what I'm talking about..

it may be just worth your while to find another motor for that sled, you can get them fairly cheap these days and you will have a great running sled for less than $1,000 most likely.
Just my 2 cents
days get shorter, nights get longer, snow gets deeper, life gets better

ok... so the motor on this sled is already pulled, and the casting numbers are as follows
EC58PL09 598cc
Motor No. 97-03137
BY FUGI HEAVY IND.LTD
Does this mean it's a '97?

most likely. you can also check the tag on the right side of the tunnel to check the manufactured date. if it says something like it was manuf. in 4/1996, its a 1997 model. also, check the oil lines. the 1997 motors have 4 oil lines coming from the oil pump- 1 to each cylinder (pto, center, and mag) and one that goes all the way to the PTO bearing (right next to the clutch). 1996 and earlier motors had only 3 lines, which is why pto bearing failure was a common problem the earlier xlt motors
1999 Polaris XC 500
-holeshot skid plate
-fox reservoir front track shock
-fox front shocks
-xenon low-beam bulb (very helpful at night)
Just add gas and snow!

Send the crank to Pete Nydal in Bristol WI. to fix the crank. He does a good upgrade to them. He done mine last year and is doing a friends as we speak.

Here are some pics of the sled.
Looks better with a quick clean job.
Tunnel extention is a little rough but I can smooth that out.

I'm sure my brother would have a clutch for you. He's in Stillwater, MN. Not sure he has an extra motor available right now though.
Email him.

I will send him an e-mail right away, thanks Dman.
A question for you guys... Is it possible this sled is an XC 600.. The seat I'm sure is, and it also has the white bumper... I sure wish the name plate wasn't painted over.

It looks like it has the X10 CRC front supension that came on the 97'a according to Polarisman. Measure the front shocks and if they are 16"+, then at least the front appears to be a 97. If the shocks are 13.5" eye to eye then, it's an older model, prolly a 96.

i would plant my money that if it is indeed a 97 that it is a xc6. a po dealer should be able to run the vin and give you the exact model.

Well I just got off the phone with a local dealer so the vin # is off a 1997 Ultra SP...
My guess is the tunnel has been replaced... I'll have to do some more digging tonight when I get home.

What whould you be looking to get out of it?
The motor that was in it was a 600 mono block. The tunnel has had some work done to it. I'll be able to dig into it alot more this weekend or later this week.

Ok.. So the tunnel has not been removed from the bulk head, but instead it has been stripped down to the frame and painted. Leaving me to beleive it is infact at 97 ultra sp. The motor is out of a 97 XLT.
I took the seat off and the tunnel extention covers the heat exchangers that the ultras had in the back of tunnel.

I'd take $500 for everything down to the carbs, water pump, oil pump, etc. everything but pistons and gaskets to make it run.

Well.. this has hit the back burner for a bit... I just traded my 94 440 xcr for a 97 xc 600 triple. Thinking I'm going to use some of the parts off the ultra sp on the xc and right that this yr... I couldn't pass up trading the 440 for the triple strait up!
