So I am thinking that if I sold my 440 motor I could get about $500 and most 600's go for about a thousand so if i did the swap, what would i need to change. I know the cranks match up, but what would i have to replace other than clutching, jetting, and gearing.
I was also thinking about a 700 but i don't think things match up as well with those.
Thanks PTWO

Carbs, pipe, possibly motor plate/straps, ignition system, possible cooling line routing slightly.. Its not easy to sell a 440 motor either, especially for any money decent at all really.
There isnt a whole lot of difference in swapping a 6 or 7 into the sled im pretty sure. Assuming your talking a VES motor, those SHOULD bolt right up with stock parts and no modifying of anything, not saying your 440 parts will work but like you can buy 6 or 700 parts that will bolt right up. Same as the 600, just need the correct pipe, ignition, mounting, etc. And trust me, this is not a cheap thing to do unless you can find a deal on a COMPLETE motor set up with everything to run it. hopefully you could get $500 out of it. Most guys are looking at 600's.
Which is why they go so cheap. Everyone swaps them out for bigger motors and lets the 440s go for a dime a dozen. Id say you would be lucky to get 500 for the complete motor including carbs cdi and all. Possible, but not alot of people buy the 440s. But again im not saying they dont, just not a desirable motor for a lot of people.

Well thats just it, and with the 600 race class there is not as many 440 racers really anymore. What do you think I could spend total assuming I sold my 440 motor.

Depends if you can get all of the needed parts at 1 time.

I might have access to some clutches, a pipe and a can. My borther-in-law had a 2007 600 and got a new pipe and new can but i'm not sure if he got new clutching as in springs or new actual clutches.

my 2 cent's, sell the sled and just buy a 600, motor swaps are verry costley, especially with all the suprises, im doing a swap in my dakota, i know its not the same but still, was suppose to me a easy bolt up, got the motor for 700 buks thought i was set, so far im at about 2300$ and climnbing. again, just my 2 cents

IMO do the swap, but if you have the cash.....keep the 440 stuff. Then when you sell the sled put the 440 back in. You can then keep the larger motor for your next project or sell it. Complete 440 sleds still seem to bring decent cash but as stated above the engines alone don't have good resale. I bought a EV 440 8 years ago brand new from a race team for 600 bucks..I've had way more than 600 dollars worth of fun with it. Its been in 3 different chassis's and the transplants have been challenging but worth the effort.

I see what you guys are saying, dodger I am definately impressed with how much power this engine brings, but I was just looking for something a little more reliable and faster.

Yea I think as long as I keep the total cost under 1000 I should be fine because I can do all the labor by myself, or with minimal help from various people. The only problem now is that I don't have much time so I wouldn't be able to search for good deals.
