03 Mtn Max 700 started good and ran good when started last weekend from summer, let it run for 5 mintues, then yesterday put a riser on with extended brake line and throttle cables on, started 1/2 choke ran good, then turn choke off and it revs to 5000 rpms track starts running, then rpms drop down and engine dies and shuts off. One shop said it could be the carbs or the gas is too lean. I put more of the same fresh gas in yeasterday when I started it. Could it be the extended brake line? Throttle cables are set right. Don't know what to do next? Help!

I cant see any way an extended brake line would cause that. Double check the throttle cables for adjustment

The throttle cables look great, tension is just right on them.

what extended throttle cables did you use? this could be part of the issue. also, check crank seals. a bad seal will cause a rev and die issue. take the belt off your sled soit doesnt run away. fire the motor and spray carb cleaner or ether at the seal on the clutch side. easiest to get to. if an increase in rpms occurs, bad seal. the mag side is a little harder to reach, you have to spray around the recoil. also, check the carb boots to airbox and intake. could have one not sealing properly or installed wrong.you would of have to removed the carbs to change the oil cable.

I used RSI from DennisKirk.com. I sprayed the carb cleaner down around both outer seals (1 & 3). Checked the boots too. I did take the carbs off again a couple days ago and check the oil cable tension (thinking that could be something) and that was good, put the carbs back on and started it and it did the same thing. I am thinking the carbs are acting up, thanks for your help SD.

do you use iso heet ,all gas tanks are subject to condesate over summer and even in the winter ,and just a little water will affect these engines very badly

there are specs for oil cable, throttle cable and choke cable freeplay adjustments. i would start there. once those are met, carbs would be next to look at. do you have the ability to take them apart and clean? if you need the specs, let me know.
