Im planning my first trip to the keweenaw this january, and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to good riding locations and cabin rentals. I am going to have upwards of 12 sleds in my party and would like to find a cabin large enuf for everyone. I am also looking for some good locations for some back country riding. thanks for your help

Try peppermill rentals.[link]ksl.com http://peppermillrentals.com/[/link] They rent per person rather than per day, makes it more affordable. Very nice rentals and just off the trail. As far as good locations for some boondocking, you'll find plenty. My first year up there we just turned wherever it looked like we could go, that'll keep you busy for a week.
When hell freezes over I'll ride there too!!

It's a very nice place, owners are very nice and helpful as well. Can't go wrong renting from them, the location is perfect. We'll be back up there the first week of Feb.

Make sure you guys do the lake of the clouds run and the porcupine mtns. There are multiple spots on the trails that run through state land for back country riding, just make sure there is plenty of snow or you might end up hitting some tree stumps.
Polaris is my way out - Other people just use a door.

I'd go at least to houghton....anything north of that is god's country.

Nope sledding in the keeweenaw is horrible, you guys should just save your money and stay home..........
Like Mud said, the peppermill is a great place to stay, and there's tons of good riding right there. Plus if something goes wrong they have a heated shop full of tools they'll let you use. If you want to do trails its not too long of a trip to up through Houghton to Calumet or if you really want to put on some miles you can even make it to copper harbor and back in a day if you push.

One of the best places to ride in MI. Its been 9-10 years now sinse I was up there. Going across the bridge in Houghton/Hancock on the sleds is a once in a life time event. Make sure you go all the way north to Copper Habor to the very edge of MI...Gods country. I think Jan. is the time when MITech has there snow fest going on. Have fun and take some pictures.
Oh when I went they had a bad year for snow...only 325" so as far as going off trail better have a long track, nothing like jumping off trail to take a leak and the trail is up to your chest.

Take a ride over to Big Bay, have some refreshments at the Lumberjack Tavern or the Thunderbay Inn.
The ride there is beautiful with unlimited backcountry riding
