Hey guys. I have been trying to find solutions to mod my sled. I want to get more speed out of the gate. I'd really like to be able to hit the throttle and get the skis off the ground. So i was thinking of getting a new clutch. Is that my best option for what i want? If so any suggestions? Im riding an 02 Polaris edge 700. Thanks

you dont need a NEW clutch you need to set your clutches up properly for the "mods" you have done to your sled and the riding style youre desiring

Im not too sure if you can get a clutch kit for your sled..you should be able to find clutch parts for sure though. Just tell the dealer if you want more bottom/top end and they should be able to hook you up with weights, springs, gears etc. If you REALLY want to spend the money on a new clutch...The majority of the Polaris guys I know go for the Comet clutch.

Ok guys thanks for the info. If a new clutch is not the answer, what is the best way to get some more speed out of the gate. I just want to get better acceleration

Bigger gears will help you with that. If you want to go all out...an exaust system will also help.

Cheap? Then a bigger gear will do that. If you want to play a bit, then clutching with springs and helix

I was going to say gears as well but you should be able to mess with the weights in your clutch to get that dialed in too.

How about some studs? If you can't hook up, you won't get the skis off the ground.

I already have 144 studs in the track. So ok gears. What am i looking for? Where can i get them?
PS i just started posting a few days ago and you all have been super helpful. Thanks so much

Ok so here is an even better one. How about cleaning my existing clutches. I have never done it and im sure the previous owner did not either. How do i do that? I should probably start there. Getting into this stuff is the only thing i have not done on my sled. Not afraid to do it plus i have grease monkeys for friends

I checked out the EPI. looks sweet. Do i need the clutch puller. its an addition $50. Don't mind spending the money just not sure of i need it or not.

The old clutches have not been cleaned ever to my knowledge. I am the 2nd owner. How much of an impact will that have without replacing. The sled has 3700 miles. Just want to know before i spend the money

Dang, clean the clutches!!!! LOL!!!

Use clutch cleaner, or brake or carb cleaner, and a scotch brite pad, and scrub them like crazy.. After 3400 miles, they are glazed and you'll see a noticable difference by doing so.

Next, get a hi-performance pipe, and re-jet properly for the temp you're running at. That should get you up in the air just fine.

If you buy a clutch, you're going to need to tell them the weight and spring you want for it anyway, and for that you might as well just order the right springs and weights and redo your own clutch.

what do you recommend for a pipe. I am worried about the DB level cause i dont want to deal with the ticket. I ride on corridor 19 in nh and they love to sit there with there to radar and check db levels

Pipes really don't make a sled loud, they're just expansion chambers. Can's do, they are the mufflers..

As far as what and where to get it, you can get new ones from several places. Just pick one that matches you're riding style (racer/trail/etc..) and your budget. There's usually some used ones on ebay or the forums.
