i just bought a 99 srx 700. this is my first yanaha and also my first triple. I'm wondering what the best mods are for this motor and setup in general. I dont want to spend a ton of money, with turbos and things like that, but i want to get as much as possible without greatly sacraficing dependability on the trails. I've been told by a few people that this motor doesn't do well with pipes, but you hear these sleds screaming every where so i'm not sure what to believe. Ive got to somehow make this sled beat a xcr 800 thats piped, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

If you dont want to spend the money i would make sure the clutching is spot on and its jetting is spot on.

I wouldnt mess with the pipes, you could throw a can on it to save some weight over the stock on. You wont gain any more but you save weight which is just as good in my book.

That XCR 800 is going to be a handful, top end you would probably take it but everything else will be a shoot out.

You shouldnt have to mess with anything on that sled. Out of the box that year those would eat other 700's and run in 800 classes and win. I would just clean the carbs, sink them, check and clean clutches and hang on.

Ditto with above, just try and shave some weight. I almost traded my 99 SKS for one, i've ALWAYS wanted one of those sleds, but their weight is a big factor.

I agree with everyone else. You've got a fast machine already with stock triple pipes. Play with your clutching and your golden. Should be a close race with an XCR8.

When hell freezes over I'll ride there too!!

I think it would be close if the 800 was stock, but he's piped and he's got a head on it. that xcr is probobly pushing somewhere in the 180 hp range. i might just have to wait and see how close it is before i go to crazy, but he's the guy that you can't let win cause you'll have to hear about it forever. im working on finding the best clutching set up now next im thinking on looking into porting and head work, but im afraid to lose to much reliability.

clutching is the key for that sled, that and suspension setup. you need it to hook up! motor takes well to porting without sacrificing reliability, if done properly.

I have always loved the SRX 700's! Unfortunately stock to stock the 99 SRX will not do as good as most will tell you against an XCR 800. The 2000 - 2002 SRX was the sneaky one. The XCR 800 is a faster machine but when any sled is set up right it will have an advantage over It's opponent. I have never seen any XCR 800 lose to an SRX of any year when the XCR is properly set up and maintained. Bottom line is the XCR 800 is also pushing 15 more stock HP and your opponents has 38 more HP! I would PM RX1CBPP he has had some luck taking down local XCR's with his 2000 SRX. Remember to keep your sled well maintained, jetted properly for temperature and tuned and you will always have the edge! A lot of triple owners lose because of improper jetting and traction. Good luck!!

Cheers
