What is the purpose of the hole drilled from the inside of the exhaust port to the combustion chamber about 1/2 inch from the top. This is on a non-ves big block 600 liberty engine. It seems to me that it reduce the compression ratio and reduce power.

Is it a good idea to plug that? Will it give more power up top? The same year 700 does not have that decomp hole.

might give it a bit more. I was told that it effected nothing while running. I have heard of guys puting hex screws with loctite in them.

I saw that pic and was like, what the hell.. Haha.. Cuz its my pic im pretty sure. And no, i do not mind you using it for reference i was just wondering when i saw it on the first page.
It is a decompression hole. I didnt know at first either, and i had asked about it. Also, i was told it could gain a few HP if you it were plugged. Its just to make it easier for starting the sled. Also i know the same year 700 doesnt have the hole either cuz my 98 xc 700 didnt have them either. And also, that is a 1998 rmk 600 cylinder, not a 99. Not that it makes a difference i guess.

Its a decompression hole polaris added to make the engine easier to turn over on cold mornings. Many shops will weld over them and then re-nic the cylinder. I don't see any real gain on a 600, especially if it doesn't have any other aftermarket parts.
I also would not suggest putting a hex screw into it, even with loctite. Can you imagine what would happen if it ever loosened and made its way into the cylinder? Not good.
