okay so my sled (2000 polaris 500 xc sp) used to be basically all red!! i hated it so i got a black hood and i loved the look... so far i painted my swey bars and i cant think of the name but the two bars that run from right in front of the motor and connect to your trailing arm are painted black... i was thinking about the trailing arm to but i thought i would ask first... should i go all black on entire sled or should i go black with red accent?.. all the back suspension components are red the trailign arm and front suspension coils are red?... what you think i should do..

It depends on how you would do it. If your gonna get some rustoleum and start going to town on it i'd say no.

Its all personal preference of course, but i like the all black look too. But i seen one last year, it was a Cat, but it wall all flat black. Looked kinda stealth inspired. Then when ya look close it had a ghost outline of flames on the hood in a lighter black or dark gray. Everything else was black that could be painted black. I kinda wondered if those ghost flames done in red would look cool. Rather like the Polaris helmet they had a out a few years ago, matte black with red outlined ghost flames.

Those nightfires are an incredible looking machine. i'm not a fan of firecats, but they do look great and the all back one is awesome.

Imo keep the red accents. Then maybe get a red screen kit for it. Maybe it's just me.

I would keep the red accents too. Otherwise it all blends together and looks kinda blah.

There's nothing wrong with painting the trailing arms with rustoleum. I welded a piece of angle iron onto a trailing arm I bent last year to stiffen it up so I didn't have to get a new one. Painted it with rustoleum since I used raw steel, held up just fine and looked the same as the other trailing arm, minus the angle iron.

smaller parts, use rustoleum. I wouldnt do a hood with it tho, but since yours is already black......... Try semi-gloss befor you go with full gloss on a sample peice of metal. if i remember, that fulll gloss was just too damn glossy, and it will show every imperfection. make sure to scuff any parts before ya paint for better adhesion. If you have any rust on the part, wire brush it off first and hit it with a shot of primer.

Yeah, id keep the red accents. My sled is mostly black, and last year i painted my vents IH red and it looks good. They look more of a orange-red then red, but i still like it. I really want to do a black/orange theme if i decide to just mod the 500 instead of buying another sled.

don't paint the trailing arms... there just gonna get hit with snow chunks and weeds and just start flaking off. you would have to powder coat them or sand them down first

goo-gone or some other sort of adhesive remover. WD40 will also work

i didnt do the trailing arms.. the sled was basically all red so far i got a black hood. painted the 4 bars that connect your sled with the trailing arm black and i painted the front shoxs!! the belly pan is plastic and is staying red that has to be put back on. i turned the bogeey wheels around so they have the black side out and im thinkin about painting the whole tunnel black which it already is black but if i go shorty seat it would look dumb cause it looks like ****.. when i have it all done i will post some pics!!

shenanigans! Paint them up. I did mine with appliance epoxy paint iirc and they held up great. That sled did alot of boondocking through the brush too.

Just make sure you dont put the goo-gone(if you use that) on your windshield. It makes it all foggy and that's why my windshield is all black, but on regular hood plastic it worked good. I've also used mineral spirits.
