i decided to start my sled up yesterday, and i open up the hood first and what do you know, 3 mice run form the sled. F***. little pricks. now i gotta tear my sled apart and make sure those worthless POS's didn't make a nest anywhere.
im sick of having to take my seat and gas tank off every time i want to get to the carb. i wanted to put a pod or KN filter one to make it easier, but the guy at the shop said that it wouldn't be good for an old sled like mine. is this because of the air flow? i was thinking about taking sheet metal and making a cylinder with it, and welding it together and putting some sort of filter in it so it would have some restricted air flow, would this work?
Bambi would have been a better and shorter movie if he was shot in the beginning with his mother

I heard moth balls work if ya throw em in under the hood. I take duct tape and tape off the airbox, and also the exhaust port under the sled to keep em outta the motor. No probs yet...knock on wood.

I got my mother in laws indy lite going last month, there was a whole family of mice under the cylinder head shroud. I thought I kept seeing something move out of the corner of my eye when I was working on it.

Yea use mothballs. That work so well. WE keep my sled in the barn next to a wood pile with some mice in that wood pile, and I have been using mothballs ever since I've had my sled and haven't had a problem yet! Just make sure to wear gloves when you put them in your sled, cuz they can really irritate your skin.

Maybe if you start your sled up..you'll hear all the little baby mice burning after a couple minutes.

Mice chew wires, so have a look at the wiring harness too.

ya, a couple wires got chomped through also. i hate mice.
would a KN filter be really bad for my sled? i just tore mt sled apart again and it gets really old really fast.

I throw mothballs into the belly pan, and throw a handful under the bulkhead before wrapping it up in the spring. Never had mice issues.
When hell freezes over I'll ride there too!!

Switching to air filters instead of an airbox will lose you horsepower on a trail sled..
They're ok for drag sleds where there's short runs, but on trail sled you want the cooler more-dense air from the outside. That is why airboxes take air from outside the sled.

Ditto. I also put bait under there. Some summers are so humid the mothballs are gone before you know it. Bait is just a little extra insurance.

i now mice didn't get in the exhaust, i filled the whole with an old rag, and that didn't move at all. i think ill just surround it with mothballs next year.
is there anything i can do that is not bad for the sled but that i can do to get rid of that damn airbox?

Get a high performance airbox? I think SLP makes them.

It will still be large and in the way. But not as large, and not as hard to remove.
BTW, I forgot to ask earlier..
