depends on the year of the motor. do you mean a 440 from the IQ race chassis, or a 440 from the Pro-x chassis?
cost depends on how much you get the motor for and how much labor you can do yourself. if you arent mechanically inclined, you'd have to take it to a shop which costs $$$
you might be better off solving the current issues on the 500 motor. whats going wrong?

440 from the Pro-x chassis. and when going full throttle it will bogg down and then
i lay off the the throttle and then get back on it and it goes again and same with
deeper snow... and im kind of mechanically inclined lol i have a few buddies that would
help me that know all of that. so thats not a issues i was just wonder how much it would cost to
get a 440 pro-x engine for... i have the same sled as ur dads '01 xcsp 600 but mines a 500
so im thinking that the pro-x 440 would fit fine.
thanks sinkic

Sounds like to me the carbs need to be cleaned and prossibly rejeted. When was the last time you had both clutches cleaned? I would start there before doing an engine swap. 105hp out of a stock 500 is a lot. More than some 600's.

Before swapping motors, try rebuilding the clutch. Sounds like the spring might be worn.

If the clutch springs aren't broke dont replace them.
Go through (or have someone that knows what they're doing) your clutches and carbs and do a compression test on the engine. Most likely you're gonna find something that's a little off which should help.
You're 500 has the older small block crankcase, this means a 440 or 600 smallblock VES engine should bolt right into your chassis.

I will have to disagree.I have been told and experienced that clutch spings only last about 2years. Yeah the ones in my clutches right now are about 4 years old but I am getting new ones. The prices can range from $15 to $55, all depends on brand and what ones you want. The ones I am getting are $35 a piece.

I would have to agree with you to disagree. I did a lot of research on springs/clutches when I re-clutched my sled. Replace the springs every 1 to 2 years for optimal performance. With all the compressing and relieving, a spring wears out.

Powersledder knows his stuff (Yah Billy, I plugged yah!!), but here's a couple of things you might have missed with the other posts from some members with very good idea's. First of all on your clutches, you should rebuild and clean them often for max performance, two, on the driven clutch spring, when inspecting it, make sure both end pins line up, if not, throw it away, it's junk, three, your primary clutch especially needs a good cleaning, and could be the cause of this whole issue, sounds like a shift out problem. And finally, if you don't pay attention to your carbs, rebuilding them and paying particular attention to the pilot and making sure it is clear of any debris, your problem will continue

Why would you want to put a pro-x 440 motor in? That would mean having to put low compression domes and having to rejet all the time. If you were going to put a new motor in put a 600 or 800 VES in
