Just picked up a 99 mxzx 440 roller. It needs to be cleaned up, could also use a new or two new trailing arms and the shocks need a rebuild. Other than that it's in good shape for 450$. I also found a brand new belt in the seat .

Not sure what direction I want to go with it engine wise. would any ZX engine drop in with out to much hassle?

Can anyone I'd The ski's?

Hope to get it going before the real snow flys. Some pictures for your enjoyment.

That sled looks like it has potential. Those trailing arms don't look to good.

thats a really good buy for 450! i think you should drop a 6 or 700 in it. cause having to mix the gas for a 440 engine gets kinda old.

They are the stock ski-doo zx chassis skis. I've got one I found in a lake while fishing, brought it home, and looked up the parts number.
Track looks like it is in great shape!
Put a 600 in it.

I think the track is new or very close to new. Still has markings from the factory/ dealer on it.

I don't think the chassis is tweaked by just eye balling but could be. The trailing arm is not that bent. I may part it out the shocks are bringing good money but it's too early to tell. If I cant find a motor for a good price I will just part it out.

Flip it on it's side and look for bucking under the footwell area, right behind where the trailing arms mount at the rear. If it's buckled there it's not a huge deal, but is technically bent.

Possible motors that are a direct bolt in would be the: 500, 600 (same as a 500ss in a rev), 600HO, 700, or 800.

Picked up an engine today took the head off and I'm not happy with it.

went with a 440 because I could not touch a 7/800 for under a 1,000.

I'm guessing this clutch is junk, The outer edge is broken off in some spots

Do you think this could be cleaned up with a hone or that acid. I was able to rub some of it off fairly easy. I have yet to look at the piston.

How much did you pay for the motor?

Id make it a project ( if you have another sled right now ), and drop a triple in that sled, then widen the runner boards.

Got some time this weekend to work on it.
Took the jugs off, split the case. The aluminum cleaned up perfect, the nisk looks good, and the ports are in good shape. I had some trouble getting the Rave valve out on the burnt down side it was stuck bad could this have caused the burn down?

I will get the piston pic's up tomorrow, I still have yet to find out why it burnt down. They where marked 64.88 is this the STD bore?

Got the pictures.
By the looks of the piston I'm guessing it was a lean condition that caused the meltdown, but there is a chunk of the piston missing so I'm not sure. Could you please help me Id the reason why. Also got the Trailing arms cleaned up a bit it's starting to look better but still rough.
Thanks.
Sorry about the poor lighting Still have temp lights up in the shop.

the cylinders look good, but are they scratched up? also how's the crankshaft? no broken bearings? seems to me that there's lotta metal shavings in the cases.

I would replace the crank seals and check the jets in the carbs.
The cylinders look good and that flaking on the clutch is not an issue.

The cylinders are not scratched up at all I cleaned the alum with that muratic acid and gave it a light stone hone after. It cleaned up better than I expected. The carbs are next on my to-do list.

The bearings on the crank are in good shape, most of the crud in the picture is gasket.

What is the best way to inspect crank seals other than visual?
