so just because this kid has his "own" sled that was bought for him, he should just shut up and ride? not try and improve what he doesn't like. it close minded people like this that's turning this country into ****.
i think you're out of luck with buying a seat from another sled. i don't think most will fit around the gas tank. i believe your best bet would be to buy an after market seat cover from a dennis kirk type place and find some type of foam rubber that you like. try and rig something up for yourself.
if riding on bumpy trails is what's making you tired, then i can tell you for sure, it because of the 10 inches of suspension you have. when i first switched from my 97 ultra spx to my 02 700 xc. it was a world of a difference. i could ride all day without a problem. personally, i would try spending 300 on a used edge suspension before anything else. then go from there.
Its not really the rough trails wearing me out, its just that my sled doesnt let me stand up easily. I really get a work out on rough trails going from sitting to standing. And then once im standing my bars are to low so i have to bend over to reach them. And with my seat i figured id have to make my own. I think if im going to do it ill have to find a big block of foam and just trim it to make it fit. Ive also read that the Edge seat and tank will swap over with a little work. Maybe ill have to "borrow" my brothers seat and tank for a while.
Ive been thinking of turning my 500 into like a mod sled, and if i do that ill get a Edge or Pro-X skid and put in. I could probably build up the 500 cheaper then i could buy a newer Swtichback. I also found a sled salvage yard 2 hours from here, so i might give them a call and see what they have. But if i do start messing with my sled it wont be until probably the spring or mid winter. I have to get a vehicle first, then see what i have left over to play with.
You should go to the salvage place and just start digging. You'd be suprised what you'll come across and what you can make fit on what with a little imagination. Most bone yards I've been to want you to pull your own parts so bring tools. If you don't and they have to pull the stuff for you your savings goes out the window. Why are you waiting so long to get your sled home? I'd be pulling that beotch apart right now.
Id love to have it home, but we dont have room right now. We have a 1 car garage with a Polaris ranger, honda foreman, a log splitter, and cabinets on both sides. If we get the splitter out my sled barely fits, so it wont be home for a while. My dad is wanting to build a 3 car garage/shop with a lean-to so we can have the trailer here. Once we get that built ill have to somehow convince him to let me work on stuff in it or i get the garage for my stuff(i doubt that). He said its going to be for his stuff. My only other option is taking the trailer to my brothers and dropping our sleds there but that wont happen for a while.
Id like to go to the salvage yard but its 2 hours north, and i doubt id get a ride up unless my dad is free. Of course there is nothing sled related within 2 hours. But my dad said he doesnt want me to buy anything before i get a vehicle. Who woulda thought itd be hard to find a good deal on a decent Jeep Cherokee or Powerstroke.
