A guy i work with just picked up a 2000 zr 700, this is his first sled and he doesnt really know much about them, so he asked if he could bring it over and go through it with him, I'm pretty unfamiliar with this model, and really with this chassis (similar to my 99 tcat i imagine, but i just picked that up this year) , anyway, is there anything in particular i should look for on this sled? He said it has new carbides and new hyfax, the only thing he noticed is that it had a leak under each of the exhaust ports at the y pipe, he said the guy fogged it every year so i'd imagine that its just a fogging oil leak, starts up on one pull, 2500 miles, he said its in near perfect shape, I figure when he brings it over , i'll check the bearings on the skid, check the fuel and oil lines, change the chaincase oil, check brake fluid, maybe spray something on the crank seals to make sure there good, i dont really want to get into the carbs , its got fresh gas in it and runs great so i'd imagine just a fuel filter change would be good, anyway if theres anything i should look out for on this sled, let me know thanks

Oh yeah, he told me that it has steel ski's?? were plastic ski's a factory option ? every arctic cat i've owned after 1996 has had plastic ski's so i figured they were what came with the sled, but he's 100 percent positive it has steel ski's, he's looking into ski skins haha, sounds kind of funny for a 10 year old sled

It's kinda fishy with the steel skis, even my 95 ZR580 had plastic skis. Also, make sure he knows where the brake is before hitting the throttle since he's a new rider starting out on a 700.

-To ride or not to ride, what a stupid question!
-You should never judge a guy until you have walked a mile in his shoes, then you are a mile away and have his shoes
-Ice, snow, or grass, I'll still kick your ass.
-"And when he gets to Heaven, to St. Peter he will tell, one more soldier reporting Sir I have served my time in Hell"

Check drive shaft bearings. Put sled on a stand, loosen the track and give the drive shaft a few tugs and check for any play. If there is any they need replacing. And yes, it should have plastic skis. The guy probably took them off and kept them for himself.

Seriously he brought it to you? Does he know what happened to the ZERT you built? LOL!

For your exhaust leak, take off the y-pipe inspect the doughnut gaskets and see what shape they are in. Might need replaced. You can always goop a little high temp silicon on those parts to help seal them up.

No its not valved. Its essentially the same motor as the 1995 ZR 700, less the twin pipes

You should always grease the cog shaft bearings. Alot of guys don't, and they tend to fill with water. It's kind of a pain to get to, but taking off the belt will help get your hands below the secondary clutch to the port.
