I went to the White Star Snowmobile Auction on 0ct. 17 2009. I visited the auctions web site to view the sleds to be auctioned off and rote down the ones I was interested in bidding on. Then I went to KBB.com (kelly blue book) I rote down the traden and retail value for each sled I was interested in.
When I registered at the auction they had signs up saying there is a 10% buyers fee + 6 % tax. If you buy a sled for $4,000. you pay $400. buyers fee plus the tax.
I went to view the sleds to be auctioned there were a few on nice sleds and a lot of them beet 2009's and 2008's with very high miles on them 5,000 to 8,000 mile on them cracks and scuffs. must of been a lot of rental sleds.
I was following a guy around that had a compression checker and was checking some of the sleds. There was several sleds that had low pressure in one of the headt.
I was surprised to see most of these sleds auctioned off for kelley blue book retail value or higher than retail list. WOW. Not only were they paying higher than blue book they had to pay a 10% buyers fee.
Go to White Stars price repot check out what some of these sleds sold for then go to kbb.com you can see for your self that a lot of these sleds sold higher than kbb retail value plus the buyers had to pay a 10% buyers fee and 6% tax. Some of these sleds should not sold for kbb trade-in and they did sell for over kbb retail. If you want to get a high price for your beet sledd. I recommand you take it to White Star Snowmobile Auction.

Weve gone to White star once. My dads friend got to old to sled, so we took his sleds and trailer up a few years ago and sold them. They were in good shape and went for a good price. When we were there they had some good deals, but the guy you were following is smart. If we go up to buy a sled we'd take a gallon of gas and a compression tester. They might look good on the outside, but the motor could be gone.

I have bought a dozen sleds there and never paid a buyers fee....I have to pay the 6% tax anyway. This policy is new from the last sled I bought there (a few years back). They always had a sellers premium and it looks as though now they a gouging the buyer and waiving the sellers fee. Also they did charge a fee for using your credit card, that they waive now. Craiglist will take a bite out of them just like it has all of the swaps this year.
The problem at white star has always been people take their kids and leave them un-attended. These kids go from sled to sled just starting them up. This issue may not happen anymore but its the main reason I don't buy my rides (or go )there anymore. If you want to sell a nice sled you better stand by it until the come to run it through the auction. I used to go every month they had it

I've never had a ten But I've had 5 two's

I returned to White Star snowmobile auction this time with a frien he had a skidoo grand touring to off kbb.com retail list it for $2,075 and it sold for $2,500. it ran good but the clutch was going bad. It seemed that most of the sleds there sold for over kelly blue book retail value pluss they buyer had to pay the 10% buyers fee.
Most of the sleds there seemed to be rental sleds with high a lot of miles on them.
I would never buy anything there.
