the guy i work for has a indy 650 chassis and the motor is being rebuilt but in the mean time he wants to put in this indy 500 tripple he picked up for $50 from a friend. it has good compression and turns freely, the problem is that he has no carburators. the motor is complete minus the carbs and exhaust.

1. what size carbs should he use?

2. would carbs from a 94 xlt 580 work?

3. can he run a stock exhaust from his 650 or can i let him use mine from my 580?

was told that it was pulled from a running sled.

i have no idea what it came out of so i was wondering what sled this might have been in. this 500 tripple could almost be mistaken for a 650 motor if i didnt read the tag. it has the older style rounded clutch on it.

Pretty sure they came stock with 34mm carbs. I am sure you can use 38's but you will have to jet accordingly and probably need new flanges.

Carbs from a 94 XLT would work you will just have to jet accordingly.

I wouldnt try to use a 650 of 580 exhaust, use a stock one meant for the motor.

The motor came out of a Centurion.

not sure what he is doing with the motor. i think he is gonna get his 650 rebuilt and sell the 500 tripple. what are these 500 tripples worth?

has good compression all the way across actualy a clean motor just doesnt have carburators.

it was pulled from a running sled
