personally my favorite saws are stihl's I own two of them I recently got a good deal on a new 250 Rollomatic I use this for trimming small stuff in the woods. My saw that I use the most when me and friends go out and cut wood for money my grandfather gave to me before he died it is Rollomatic 044 this has a 3ft bar on it This saw has some power. What is your favorite chainsaw company and Why do you like this company? For me stihl is a reliable saw and They are just a great company to deal with. On their site they do not even make the 044 any more. This is my 250 that I got a really good deal on.

I mainly use stihl. Fil has a few poulan pros I will use every now and then. Huskys are good saws other than the oregon bar and chains. They don't hold an edge as long as the stihl chains. They seem to be of a softer grade of steel.
I sharpen my own chains on a grinder. You can really see the difference in the sparks. The oregons have alot more sparks.
I use my 023 and 026 more than my 038 pro and my 044. The big saws are too heavy to hold on to all day long. They are back breakers.
I normally cut 1-2 cords per day so a heavy saw is not what I want. The litle saws might not be as fast but my back thanks me at the end of the day. I will fell a tree with the big saw with a chisel chain. Limb and buck with the 023 up to 14". Then bring out the 026, buck up to 16". Then finish off with the 038pro 18" or 20" or the 044 with the 32". Really depends on the tree size.
I don't beleive the bs on arboristsite.com that you need a minimum of a 066 to cut trees down.

I've always used Stihl. My dad had a small 180 (like a 12" or 14" bar), but that one bit the dust. Now he's go a 290 (I think) with a 20" bar. Great saw. My brother in law has a Husqvarna. It's also a nice saw, but doesn't seem to have quite the power of the Stihl. But still gets the job done.
I need big jugs on my sled, cuz my girl doesn't.

I got to play with a Husqvarna 460 rancher with a 24 inch bar at work and that thing had plenty of power. Fun saw for sure.

All I have for a saw right now is my stihl MS270, although I just sold an MS361 and an 034. I wanna buy a bigger saw like a husky 372, but I'm not sure if I would use it enough.

I sent it to brad snelling in ohio. Search for BLSNELLING on youtube, He ported the cylinder and piston, did some work on the transfers, lowered the squish, opened up the muffler, and got her dialed in just right. He charges $250 including return shipping.

Funny this topic comes up. I am buying a chainsaw in the next week. Looking at Stihl MS270 because my dad has one and I love it. They are $439+ tax for 18" with quick adjust. I was looking at the 280 and 290 also because one of them was just $60 more and was rated at 2x the life and metal side cover or some crap like that.

I had a 270. I wasn't crazy about it. It was a good saw and ran excellant. I hated the quick adjust. When you change chains and flip the bar you have to take the sprocket and put it on the other side. I perfer the 260. Yes the 260 it cost more. but it has a better feeling in the hand.
My wife uncles just went together and bought a 290 18" .325 with 2 chains, files and a gallon of oil. For around $350, I think that's what they said. It is the bigger frame saw but a good performer in the stihl lineup.
What size chain matt? please don't say .325...please. While that chain is good. It is not as nice as the 3/8" The .325 is good for the average home owner. Which you are not matt. You cut more wood than the average home owner. Get the chisel chain also. You know what you are doing kick back wise you don't need a safety chain.
Anyone wear chaps???? I finally bought mu first pair. You never know what can happen with a sharp chain spinning very fast. Quote originally posted by triplefever

This a dear to the heart topic as I cut wood for 2 houses and drop the occosional tree for a customer. I am far from a tree pruner as I drop everything I cut.

I am using a Husky 455 Rancher. Bought it after my Poulan Pro puked. It works well enough for the 5-6 cord that I might cut in a year. I have an old Stihl 024 that I still use to cut stumps.
I wear chaps. Didn't really buy them for the safety aspect but I do see that I put a small cut in one leg. I bought them more to keep me clean. Now I can take off the chaps and walk into my house without the mistress going postal about all the chips on the floor.

Ohh don't I know about that. The wife gets real pissy about the wood chips that accumalate in my pockets. She hates it when the dryer and her clothes get full of chips. I tell heryou want to be warm at a low cost ....or pay for natty gas. ..It's your call. She shakes her head and walks off.

I don't think I've had much chips in the pockets since I started to wear the chaps. As long as I take my boots off BEFORE I get into the house.....she leaves me alone.
Maybe your wife should was her clothes first and separately from yours?? Mine learned that the hard way. I got some grease on her pants. My excuse that I was lubing HER sled did not fly! LOL

Matt, if your serious about buying an MS270 with the quick adjust, the shop I work at has one for sale. It's used but in pretty good condition as far as I can tell. I believe it has an 18" bar, and has the quick adjust. If you want more details PM me and I can give you the number so you can talk to Jim.
I just got my first pair of chaps this summer. Paid dealer cost for them cause I work at a husky dealership. I run stihl's but have a pair of husqvarna chaps haha. I think it was a pretty good investment though because you never know what will happen, especially after a long day and your arms are tired.

LOL
I guess women just don't come with a sense of humor.
I wouldn't dare to wear my woods boots into the house.

I think that is how I knicked mine. Went brain dead for a second. Brought the saw back to my waist faster than I got my finger off the throttle.
Almost did what the one guy posted today with his cut finger.
I don't usually wear them in but....
Those are pretty tall boots. You wear them on the outside of the pants? Those suckers would hold TONS of chips. If I wore those in the house, the old lady would..........

I just got my first pair of chaps this summer. Paid dealer cost for them cause I work at a husky dealership. I run stihl's but have a pair of husqvarna chaps haha. I think it was a pretty good investment though because you never know what will happen, especially after a long day and your arms are tired.
I( have husky chaps also. I got the for $30 of fleabay. Lightly used. but they work.

Those were ones I was going to buy from a guy. They were way too tall. I have 12" ones like that though. Best boot in the woods ever.

What is the brand and model? I will need new boots this year. Split the sole on the old hunting boots I was using.
