Sure send it. I can't open that link here at work. Our dang internet filter blocks out many sites. Including "shopping". Hope Erik never changes how he has this site setup. I would never have time at home to be on here.

Are those legal at the local golf course?? I didn't realize they had spikes. Now I understand why you won't wear them in the house.

Dealers can make and break a company I like huskies just not their bar and chain combo.

how much? what did they do? I want to send my 044 to snell but can't justifiy the $$$ just yet,

I sent it to brad snelling in ohio. Search for BLSNELLING on youtube, He ported the cylinder and piston, did some work on the transfers, lowered the squish, opened up the muffler, and got her dialed in just right. He charges $250 including return shipping.

I have him as a favorite. I watch his stuff all the time.

Funny this topic comes up. I am buying a chainsaw in the next week. Looking at Stihl MS270 because my dad has one and I love it. They are $439+ tax for 18" with quick adjust. I was looking at the 280 and 290 also because one of them was just $60 more and was rated at 2x the life and metal side cover or some crap like that.

I had a 270. I wasn't crazy about it. It was a good saw and ran excellant. I hated the quick adjust. When you change chains and flip the bar you have to take the sprocket and put it on the other side. I perfer the 260. Yes the 260 it cost more. but it has a better feeling in the hand.

My wife uncles just went together and bought a 290 18" .325 with 2 chains, files and a gallon of oil. For around $350, I think that's what they said. It is the bigger frame saw but a good performer in the stihl lineup.

What size chain matt? please don't say .325...please. While that chain is good. It is not as nice as the 3/8" The .325 is good for the average home owner. Which you are not matt. You cut more wood than the average home owner. Get the chisel chain also. You know what you are doing kick back wise you don't need a safety chain.

Anyone wear chaps???? I finally bought mu first pair. You never know what can happen with a sharp chain spinning very fast.

wow a topic i deal with all the time...this is what i do for a living...i own stihls a ms250 ms200t ms192t 044 and a 088 with a big bore ported and polished piped and jetted unlimited coil i have everything from a 12in bar to a 6 foot bar now dont get me wrong huascvarna's are really good saws too they dont vibrate as much but they dont have the rpms that a stihl has but still a really good saw

This a dear to the heart topic as I cut wood for 2 houses and drop the occosional tree for a customer. I am far from a tree pruner as I drop everything I cut.

well i trim climb and cut down everyday for work and my many customers... ;p

xcr440- you asked what chain I am getting.. I have no clue. That was not provided to me as an option. There are NO deals on Stilhs that I have found. Everyone is the same exact price. I called 7 places. The prices they sell for on ebay are stupid. Lightly used ones sell for 10 bucks shy of what I can buy them new for.

You won't find a "deal" over the phone. They never know if you are a "stihl" person seeing if you are selling way too cheap. Best bet is to go into your"local" store and talk to them face to face.

MY wifes uncles picked up their 290 for $350 out the door with 2 files, 2 chains, guard, gallon of stihl oil.

I went to my local farm store and husky were way nore expensive than the stihl.

Stihl will never sell their stuff over the internet. Their dealer net work is what makes them.

Keep an eye on ebay. deals do come along.

My brother has a good used 021 16" for sale if anyones looking.

How about some chainsaw pictures?

Here is a Husky 268(68cc) that I got for $40. Had 60psi compression when I got it, pretty obvious why. I put a new 272 (72cc) piston and cylinder on. Also ended up replacing almost every part on the saw to get it running right.

Here is an old Homelite Zip 5 82cc (1959) that I found in our barn and cleaned up and got running. The bottom pic is next to my MS 361

Here is a Jonsered 510sp that I fixed up (before and during)

Heres my MS 361 before port job

Couple piston & cylinder pictures of a husky 50 I rebuilt

Couple pictures of the saws at the wood piles

Once you get into a store and actually talk about the saw, price and what they might throw into the deal, you can talk about the chain. DO NOT GET THE "SAFETY" chain. You will regret it. Take xcr440's advice. Unless you are a TOTAL rookie with a saw, they are not needed.

xcr440, are you talking about a splitting maul? Or is there something special about this one? A dual angle head perhaps?

oh. Must have a good business. I need to find a place like that. Around here it is mainly tree business(trimmers) that sell the stuff.

Oh heres a pic of a little Ryobi I got refurbished for $110 shipped. If you are ever on arborist site there is some good info on it. Brad snelling did a port job on one and couldn't believe such a quality engine was in it. It looks cheesy but underneath the plastic is a pro engine with bolt on cylinder. Its a fun little saw, i really only use this and my MS361 now. I drilled the muffler out to give it a little more power.

I will say if anyone is crazy like me and wants to get their saw ported, brad snelling is awesome. I sent my saw out on a Thursday and had it back in my hands the following friday. He will usually do it the day he gets it or the day after.

In addition to the power increase, the throttle response is unbelievable on a ported saw. It revs very very quickly, and it is tuned a 14,800 RPM with no load, or about 13,000 rpm in the cut. He tuned it to perfection and it really rips!

Bought my new toy today

Brand new MS270 with 18" bar. Chain is a .325 chisel. I dont know if that is a "safety chain". I was going to get the quick adjust but after looking at it and it gave the saw a plastic side case, no thanks. Price was $410+ tax. I got the case for 20 bucks, oil for 11, and 2 stroke oil for 5.. Adding that stuff and tax was $481. Lot of money but man what a saw.

He had a MS260 pro that was used there. I would say maybe 10-15 hrs of use. Had 16" bar on it and he was going to sell it to me for $425. I read online about people complaining about its power and torque and vibration. I went outside his shop with it and cut a log. I was not impressed. It has slightly less umph than the 270 and seemed to vibrate more. It did however have a better piston and cylinder design that is supposed to last longer. I decided it was not for me.

I just used the 270 for a bit and the only thing I have noticed that is odd is that when I hit the gas a few times it looked like it was throwing a little bit of oil
