Time to speak up Michigan!

Governor Granholm Abolishes Snowmobile Advisory Committee!
LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued Executive Order 2009-45, creating a new Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) to protect and conserve Michigan's air, water and other natural resources. The new department will assume the powers and functions of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), which are abolished by the executive order. The order takes effect January 17, 2010.
Lt. Governor John D. Cherry, Jr., at the governor's request, is leading a broad review of state government that could eventually result in the number of state departments being reduced to eight. "The new department will be leaner, more efficient and better able to manage our natural resources and protect our environment," Cherry said. "I've been traveling around the state hosting town halls to get the public's input on government streamlining. Creating this new department will put the interests of conservationists at the forefront."
Several boards, councils or committees are abolished by the executive order. The Michigan Trailways Advisory Council and the Michigan Snowmobile Advisory Committee also are abolished.
Their functions are transferred to a new seven-member Michigan Trails Advisory Council within the DNRE that will advise the governor and the DNRE director on creating, developing, operating and maintaining motorized and non-motorized trails in Michigan.
Who are the experts in the world of snowmobiling, snowmobilers or the non-motorized community?
The Michigan Snowmobile Association was shocked by the announcement. President Don Reed condemned the action. “Snowmobile grant sponsors relied on the SAC committee and MSA to work with the administration to move our program forward” Don Says, “Without their input I have very grave concerns for the future of snowmobiling in the state of Michigan!” When snowmobilers pay 100% of the cost of snowmobile trails, and contribute over a billion dollars a year to Michigan’s ailing economy, why mess with a proven winner?
Reinstate the SAC committee!
We urge all snowmobilers to unite and call the Governor, Lt Governor and tell them that this is a bad move. Snowmobiling is too important to be left in the hands of a Michigan Trails Advisory Council?

Lt Governor Cherry 517-373-6800
Legislators who have supported MSA and the Snowmobile Advisory Committee.

The greenies are coming.
Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Will fishing and hunting also be grouped into the same department as motorized and non-motorized trails?
These are things that are very different and require seperate attenion. Why would they want to "fix something that isn't broken"?
I'll make my call!

I just called Lt. Governor Cherry. She said she was not aware of this and forwarded me to another # that just rang and rang!?
I think the more calls they get from out of staters like myself can only help. It would be nice to just get some clear answers from them!

Sounds like with the grants and money coming in, they had no problem with money for trails and such. Kind of sounds like they want to filter some of that money into other things. Like grouping all money together, then distribute it non-accordingly.
Is there an address to send letters to for this, and who to send it to?
I'll deff. voice my opinion on this!!

Pretty soon they will have it just as screwed up as New York and we'll have to pay $100 to register a sled! I stopped going to NY because of the costs or registration, hope MI doesn't take notes from NY.

I called cherry with same results. Had someone else call, and also got forwarded to another #. Her saying she is not aware is b.s. She said the same thing to both of us, like she was reading from a paper. I haven't read a post yet where they had talked to someone, when they were forwarded to the other #. That must be their F U line to dump calls.

Told people they better start joining clubs and talk to your Reps. Find out what is going on.
BO administration gave the green light for the greenies to go after everything.
WE aLL better start writing, I have for the SAWS group, even tho I dont ride there.
I will for this also, it only takes a few minutes.
We talked to one rep. many years ago. He said the reason he voted for something, was because only a few people wrote to him, and we didnt.
Beware, that means the Greenies will probably have control of your trail money, ask for audits.
We lost millions in MN. They used are money to tar trails then told us to stay off, ONLY because snowmobilers Finally got off there butts and said something, they backed down. kind of.
They then took are money and built bike trails, again we bitched and finally have trail money supposedly go into a special account.
I guess MI, doesnt like the idea of money coming into the state?
There not broke enough?
Also contact motels, Bars, Gas stations, any place you visit, they are allies, they make a living off of us.

I just got a hold of her office and spoke to a guy. He was was very kind and listend to all my questions and gave me the best answers he could at the time.
Yes, the Govenor did give order to abolish the Michigan Snowmobile Advisory Committee. He did say they have been recieving calls.I told him how there are many out of state snowmobilers who blast a ton of money into their economy each year. He agreed and said we don't want to lose that, and that they are going to try and work with the snowmobilers?, but no answers now as far as how that will be done.
Again, he was as kind as could be and I thanked him for not passing me off and giving me some of his time. I think his name was Joseph?

What kind of questions did you ask? A base might help, I'm not sure what to ask them about. I really don't want to sound like a moron if I do get ahold of someone high up on the food chain.

Just be honest...
Tell them you are a responsible snowmobiler who contributes to the economy and you want to make sure that we are kept in the loop of what is going on in this restructure. Ask for an explanation of what this means for us! etc...
The big thing is... your call and concern shows them that they are being watched! This makes it more difficult for them to do anything extreme without opposition.

Just another example of bureacratic BS. Sounds to me that they want the money to go elsewhere than where WE pay for it to go and that sucks...badly. Surely every Snowmobile Club in Michigan knows about this fact? If not, they need to know quickly. Sometimes these things fly under the radar. Probably doesn't even really matter. They pass Cap & Trade snowmobiling will probably disappear altogether unless you just ride illegally. I mean, c'mon, they are going to TAX cow and pig farts and let snowmobilers just ride through the woods? How utterly immoral on our part to even think of doing such a thing. I just want to bitch slap all of them.
Thinking writing a letter is best. Phone calls always seem to be answered by the lowest person who just tries to pass you off ASAP, emails go unanswered, but sending a letter usually seems to get a reply when I send one.
If you do send one...DEMAND a response. Just my 2 cents...
Well, isn't this just freakin' ironic? The MI DNR contact site has been disabled:

Yes!, but you will have to have some facts ready for them to look into it... Maybe you could let your local club know and ask them to go to the paper for you. It wouldn't hurt if you guys up there in Michigan got a hold of M.S.A. and see what they know about all this.
