Looks like a bill is trying to be passed state wide that makes it illegal on all public lands.
I know some counties had it but not state wide. It seems as this bill is being made to shut the greenies up more than anything.

I'm going to guess that this is more of an issue in the northern part of the state? I know around here there isn't much public land the trails go threw...

It is pretty much on the books at a county level but they are trying to get it passed at a state level. That's how I understand it.
Yes it's more of an issue in the state and national forests than in the central/southern part of the state where we run on private land.

That was my thoughts about it...boondocking in Wi is a no-no. I've never done it, always go to the UP for that. In Wi I'll ride the ditches like no tomorrow (county highways mostly), and that's even frowned upon. Got pulled over by a county sheriff last year. Had a complaint from this crazy lady who was driving along side us hanging out the window yelling "you're ruining it for everyone". A few miles later a cop was waiting for us at an intersection. Asked where we were going..."Menomonie"....where are you guys coming from...."Menomonie". He didn't like that we were just out riding, especially since we weren't on the trails, but it wasn't illegal so he couldn't do anything. Said basically they'll get complaints, they have to deal with it, and if it happens enough the people will start bitching to the county to make it illegal.

Yeah, you see it alot along hwy 70 between arbor vitae and st. germain. It is state land and it isn't illegal so there not much that can be done about it.

It's to bad really, I guess I've never had any land around here other then my own to "play" on. Thats why we run the ditches when we are tired of the trails.

They are nothing more than a bunch of stuck up fairies with nothing better to do than complain. I know, get them on a sled, or are they too stuck up for that.
And that is my rant for the day:)
-To ride or not to ride, what a stupid question!
-You should never judge a guy until you have walked a mile in his shoes, then you are a mile away and have his shoes

It would be hard for them to add a bill like that here, hell they even added a law to make sleds street legal on the road below 25 mph.

Well I hate to say it but if they ever passed something like that in Michigan I would not abide to the law. For the most part I stay on trails and ride somewhere but I love to get off trail and have fun. They better have fast sled cause i'm not gonna stop for a squad car. We have been riding the same small non groomed non official trails "state and private land" for years and they wanna stop it out of no where shame on them. I am also a hunter and a fisher and i'm in the same woods and trails when there is no snow and there is no real damage to the natural suroundings.

I know what you mean, my aunts farm has a trail that runs along there property to lake winnibago i was boondocking by a snow fence that i set up for me to be able to mess around and i got pulled over and given a ticket for tresspassing. I had the officer come with me to my aunts where she screamed at him for giving me a ticket and told him that she is fine with people messing around as long as the dont damage anything.

^^^Police shouldn't be able to write up a ticket unless they verify it with the landowner first.

not all the time. I thought that to be true but it's not. There are certain things a dnr warden can't write up for.
My wife's uncle had a dnr warden go to there house and ask if he could go down and look at their pond. He said no, go back down the road you came. So I dnr guy got in his truck and left.

Yes, run from the police/DNR. Gee, that sounds like a great way to get this bill fast-tracked into law . I ride in Northern WI quite a bit, and there are signs everywhere that say "Stay on the Trail". Yet, there are tracks that go everywhere. I miss living in the UP where I could basically ride where I pleased, but I live in WI now, and I still enjoy riding. So that means stay on the trail. If people would learn to respect the land they are allowed to use, then stupid laws like this one wouldn't have to be created.

Join a club and see the a$$ chewing we get when people go off the trail. The clubs only lease the ground the trail is on. If you leave the marked trail you are then trespassing and can get a fine. This is of course on private land trails not the state/fed forests.....yet.

Really now, I mean how many of the actual people on the legislation actually see first hand the damage caused by boondockers? Accidents happen on the trail system, by riders not abiding and or paying attention. Boondockers and accidents, are what they are, hitting rocks, stumps, ravines, etc., all rider inflicted, don't here them complaining about the issue..Yet, there are people out there that have to get their voice heard
