It would be nice to be able to ride on a trail that doesn't have any bare spots.
-To ride or not to ride, what a stupid question!
-You should never judge a guy until you have walked a mile in his shoes, then you are a mile away and have his shoes
-Ice, snow, or grass, I'll still kick your ass.

Either an old 2 track with 36 inches of untouched snow. Or trails that are made by me through the woods and hills.

Im just happy with no rocks sticking out. But ideal is flat with 2 inches of fresh pow on top of a good flat base.
Couple years ago I was out all day when it was 35 degrees. Then they groomed and it dropped to about 20 at night and it set up. Not hard, but stiff, the carbides sunk in all the way but the skis didnt touch hardly at all and my track sunk in enough to bury the lugs plus a little more iirc. I was leading and the only one to have touched it after the groomer. Talk about fast. It was like riding a slot car. The handling and hookup was amazing. Best 30 miles of trail in my life, hands down.

A good hard base of about 8 inches, with a layer of about another 8 inches of powder, that all groomed, and than a little bit of light fluffy snow on top.

There are plenty of opportunities for off trail riding where I live. I just have always preferred a nicely set up trail.
When it comes to groomed trails, I find the amount of snow irrelevant, it just has to be smooth. Of course the colder the tempatures, espcially after grooming, the better the trail will set up, so cold temps are always a plus. Twisty trails are preferred, but a nice long straight away here and there has its advantages as well.
If we're talking an ungroomed trail, such as logging road, then maybe 4-6 inches of powder to smooth things out is nice.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

It's an old railroad tunnel in the Duluth MN area. You have to go through it (or turn around I guess).
