Just looking for some opinions on whether I should longtrack my XC or not. I am kind of sick of getting beat up on our typical trails around here and may go new or newer next year. I will most likely keep the XC and this is where the question comes in. Do I just get a nice 121" Ripsaw.....or do I go for the gusto and do a 136-144...? I realize the larger footprint will aid slightly but I am still on a 10 year old mill here. Yes money is kind of a factor, but I could swing the extended track I think. What do you folks think? Thanks.

Dude, I used to have that same sled. Changing the track SUCKED on it! Mine had reverse so the chain case was fatter. It was next to impossible to get the cover off because of the trailing arms that mount right next to the chain case. Just get rid of the thing before changing the track. new tracks are a few hundred bucks orrr you could just sell it and put that few hundred bucks towards a sled thats a few years newer. throw it up on craigslist for a month, if it doesn't sell then change out the track. Good luck...

As for the long track, the gen II SKS was a pretty sick sled which would be the same thing, I'm sure it would be a fun sled!

When I did mine( no reverse) changing the track was very easy I thought. I actually couldn't believe it was as easy as it was, I thought I f-ed it up. I went to the 144 on mine and I don't know that I will go shorter again, and the 99 700 is a very good sled in my opinion. For me with the amount of sledding I get in each winter it would never pay for me to buy a new sled. Again, my opinion.

Thanks for the input. I have had the track out and it is nothing, so the work I am not worried about. Hey Dennis, I am sending one cyl.. back to Millenium this week and have all the gaskets and parts ready to go. The cyl. was cracked at the ports where they fixed it so I have a slight deal worked out with them. I am going to order carb boots and the motor should be good to go, I hope at least. I bought some 202 main jets to not chance anything this year. I will you posted on the rebuild. Drew, I called MCB about the needles and they were closed so I need to call them again this week.

So the cylinder had cracks around the intake ports? You have the 824's correct? Let me know if you go with the "G or J" series needles. Go 136x1.25x15 Ripsaw Kevin, you hammer the trails, ok for powder

Thanks RMK, we need to get together this year. Dennis that's correct on the 824's. My originals were cracked and I sent them out and got two that had been repaired. Scott @ Millenium said the heat from the "Lean" condition caused it to crack again and he'll knock some $$$ off another one...not the best but its something. Still undecided about the whole track thing but am certainly leaning towards a 136 Ripsaw or Cobra. The Yamaha guy is also extending his this year so I won't have an up on him....that damn SRX is fast! I have faith in the old XC but I can't lose that Yammi!

Hey Drew, I saw in another post about 8" wheels that yours came with the "kit". Was it the Tracks USA stuff or what. What all came with it? THanks.

My 144 works great on the trails, I got the tip up rails so the last 10" or so doesn't really touch the ground, so the handling isn't much different than it was when it was a 121". And the 8" wheels I have are not from tracksusa, I got them off of ebay, it was a kit from tri city performance. they are not 8" wheels, they are like 7 1/8" wheels from an arctic cat rear wheels. The kit for that come with the new axle, the plastic blocks and rear wheels, so basically the whole rear axle assembly.

Ok Drew, time to change the Avatar? Summer is over, and now it's time to get the 144 footprint out and rip!!

I was wondering about those jets you had in there last year, weren't they like 195's? When I ran the HTG pipes, minimum 205/210 was what kept my plugs Brown. Really though, the crack should be from a lean condition, unless you were running the plugs White, and Millenium should be able to weld them up

195's they were Dennis...with 7400 miles and 8-9 years worth of riding. Our temps don't get bitter here and we are only @ 500' so I don't know. The only thing I do know is after this last failure it still ran....not great but good enough to do a lil' diagnosis. With some carb cleaner and a tube on the nozzle, I sprayed all the areas prone to leakage, and right at the bottom of the carb boots I got a slight variation in idle. I can't see any visible cracks so I don't know for sure. They have been on/off enough that the bolts sink into them pretty good and they are 10 yrs old now so it's time to replace. Is the gas we run getting to the point where we need to jet every year? If so I will be going new next year! My fuel injected Buell runs great all the time....

At this point I kind of wish my sled was stock so I didn't have to worry so much, but I bought it this way and it has ran great for years...until recently! It ran good for 650 miles on this rebuild. The last ride was a VERY rough one and we did put a good whoopin' on them that night. The Yammi and old Whitey showed a Rev 800, a new F-8, and some MXZ (700?) how it happens in a straight line, but the bumps just kill us and they have a blast. Hind sight is 20/20 right...if it is jetting, air leakage, whatever...it will be cured and I won't be bit again. I can't afford to keep this up as this stuff is expensive when everything is going good!

I did the 136 track last year and I am glad I did it. It is not to much more work than just doing the normal track swap. And if you do any water crossing it makes a huge difference!!!

I have never ridden on anything but a 121 but I did by a ripsaw 1 1/4 last year for my 700 and I love it. Powder, trails and in between there is a night and day difference I dont even enjoy riding my other sled with the stock track its sloppy in the rear.

136 it. I tried a 121 on my last 99 after a fw years of running a 136, that was a mistake. I didnt like having a 144 either. IMO, 136 is the best all around track you can run.

and its a peace of cake swapping tracks on the 99's.
