Well, over the past few evenings Dad and I have been working on the latest creation. Since the IQr from last fall is pretty much sold (sale pending) I figure I need something to ride for the coming year. We have a lot of leftover parts from the past few years so this year we're simply build a sled from spare parts (well, mostly). It's a rat sled.
Here are a few pictures so far. The tunnel and bulkhead are used so we spend some time fixing cracks and cleaning things up. Still some work to do there. We've decided to use the 660 (which I've used before) as the powerplant. It will have the same front end we always use from the consumer sleds, 136 inch track, stock fuel tank and seat. The biggest change we are making is using the RMK coolers again. It actually isn't "too" much work to fit these things in. After you do it a time or two get gets a little easier. Pretty straight forward sled this year...nothing too complex. In fact, it should go together rather quickly. Note: I find it a bit funny how I say things will "go together fast" when we're essentially starting out with sides of a race tunnel but it really is amazing how quickly you can put together stock sleds.

I think its really cool you build your sleds from the ground up. Really adds to the trust you have in its reliability. Although there is one thing about your builds that I don't like. You make them look alot like a normal straight from the factory sled with a few mods. If I was to put that much time into I would want something unique, one of a kind.

Yeah the one last year was awesome. Just curious (if you don't mind me asking) why are you selling the one you made last year? That awesome paint job you got done didn't even see snow. Either way I'm sure this build will turn out awesome as well.

I was waiting for a good project thread to start.
If you are going to polish the tunnel at all, I would do it now. That way there is nothing in the way.
What is it going to be? kinda like an IQ?

Looks like you have to fill the void till snow arrives eh. Well were on our way to riding soon here in Canada's arctic. Well hope things go as planed. And have fun. I know it is always great to build a sled from scratch. I was wondering if you after spending tons of hours on a project just wanting to get rid of it right away? I know I feel that way and then after about a month I am actually able to appreciate it. I know it's weired but hey, what can you do. Well good luck again.

Is it going to be a N/A 660 Erick or is there going to be a hair dryer pushing it?

I vote hair dryer just to make it truly unique, and typical Erick build

Like I said, it's going to be a basic sled. No turbo, nothing complex. In fact, I'm almost embarrassed by not doing something a little more complex, but that's just the way it is. Not saying it won't kick the asses of 90% of your sleds or anything but it just isn't a super modified beast. After last year, both Dad and I want something a little more simple. As for getting rid of the other one or not riding it with the new paint - I guess I really don't care all that much. Sure, having a nice sled is kinda cool but I don't need to own it to prove I can make something nice. Right now the value on it is better than it will be this spring and I have a lot of student loans to pay off, hence the reason it's going down the road. Some people just won't understand but if I have this new IQr to ride and it's fun (which it will be) I really could care less how it looks.

Yes, there are advantages. It cools better, looks better, allows me to attach any Polaris tunnel accessory easily, and I'm doing it because I have the parts already and it's not too terribly much work.

Wow Erick...your like a god to these guys LOL.
Is the motor same as MNSLEDNECKS old one? Thinking about that kit for while and I could use some first hand advice. It would go on my IQ 600...don't want to F up warrenty on the Rush.

It's a 660, but it's not the same as his. I think he had Carls do his engine with their kit. Mine is built by hand, and it works impressively well!

Yep, his was a carls. So you just punched yours out and installed new pistons I'm assuming. For lack of tools I'd probably buy a kit.
Good Luck with your new sled build. I did some deer hunting in Baudette and it was getting COLD. Should have snow within a month or so I'm hoping.
