I am having difficulty getting the drive belt on my 1993 Ski-Doo MXZ Formula. The Clymer Manual says to apply pressure to the drive pulley while turning clockwise to separate the halves, but I have tried and tried and I cannot master this. I changed the belt last season out on the trail, and it slipped right on. I would appreciate any advise, it is getting really frustrating ! Thanx

try to pry it apart with a pry bar

Do you have a belt removal tool in your tool kit? It is a T shaped threaded piece of metal that opens like a switch blade. Slightly oil the threads it and screw it into the side of the primary clutch. You will see the hole. Our 97, 99 and 2002 Ski-doos all have this, not sure if your does. Slowly turn it clockwise and the clutch will open up so much that my 12 year old could change the belt. I would not recommend a pry bar since you can scratch the inner part of the clutch which any sharp edge will eventually fray your belt. If you need to pry it apart, raise and support the back of the sled, open up with a wooden hammer handle and work it off. I have also taken rags and wrapped it around the bottom belt part and pulled it towards the outside of the sled while pushing the clutch forward. That way you won't pinch your fingers. yeah i know about scratching those things need to be carefull ,i have a couple of sleds that you almost need to use a railroad bar on ,have real tight srprings in them

Thanks Guys, used both of your suggestions. Do not have the hole on Primary, couldn't budge it with wood, so I wrapped a pry bar with duck tape, and got her open without a scratch ! The belt is on, engine defogged, and starting on first pull..READY FOR WINTER ! THANK YOU !
