I got a guy who wants to sell me his XCR 600 triple triple with aggresive chasis. He will take $450 for the sled.. It needs some work, Runs ok, leaking antifreeze out by the recoil. I'm sure it's the water pump. Can anyone tell me the yr of the sled by the picks and what's your thoughts.. I'm thinking for that price I need to buy this thing, fix it up, then either ride or sell it afterwords...
The guy thinks its a 97 or 98... Said it's not the original hood..

Looks like it was well taken care of...
Im loving the duct tape. I think its worth the $450. Sorry, but as for the year your guess is as good as mine.

Bring a compression tester, and make sure the compression is the same across all 3 cylinders.. If it is, buy it.
If the compression varies by more than 10 psi, then stay away.

It's a 96 or 97 because thermostat and bypass are are not there. It has a 1999 800 hood with 1998 graphics.
When a water pump leaks on the 96 and 97 Fuji TT models they always dump antifreeze into case (bad). Sounds like there is no ownership, why even consider it. Can't say I like the look of sled or the fact that it has aftermarket pipes on it. These sleds were expensive to maintain even when in good shape.

keep in mind, on those motors, the water pump isnt by the recoil. it is located in the front of the crankcase under the y-pipe. (this motor had a gear-driven pump via the crankshaft, not belt-driven via the flywheel)

Even if the compression is off you can part it out on e-bay and make that $450 back pretty quick.

If it is the water pump, the parts to rebuild it are about $150.
Parts market is real tough right now, people aren't buying.
Seems everyone wants something for nothing.

400-450 doesn't sound terrible if you work on your own stuff. I would do a compression check. It really depends on how nice looking a sled you want. It looks like a wash could improve the looks alot and maybe a $50 seat cover. I'd probably buy it. That is the true triple triple right? Case reeds?

I'm not sure about how good of shape it really is in.. all I've got is the pics and talked to the guy for about 5 min on the phone, and he knew nothing... If it rains like they are saying I will be able to get out there and look at it..
I don't really need a sled I got one I plan on riding.. More lookin for a back up or somthing to loan friends to ride..

Few things off the top of my head, I can think of for now.
96-97 has 3 oil lines, 98 has 4.
96 has a pipe breather on the upper case/carb side, between the mag and center. 97-98 doesn't
97-98 has the t-stat house inline on the hose coming off the water bar. 96 does not.

Going to go look at it tonight I think.. calling for 90% chance of rain... The guy said it runs, but is really loud (The main reason he want's go get it gone). Told me he had to top end rebuild by a buddy last yr and has leaked coolant since... Either way I'm sure I'm going to take it for $450 or less. I'll let ya all know what I do.. Either way I'm going to have to take it to work.. Wife will not be to happy if I put another sled in her parking spot in the garage lol.

I bought the sled.. $450 He said it is not a 600 but bigger, but has no idea what size or the yr of the sled.. it has steel ski's, but came with plastic ones. I'll tear into it more tomorrow.
The coolant leak is not from the pump, but from a gasket from what looks like a coolant rail on the front of the engine?

its either a 650 motor from the early 90's, or the motor is from an ultra spx (680cc)

yeah, I would have to say it's worth the money to buy it.. The motor was just rebuilt before last yr.. only 2600 miles on the sled. Not perfect by any means.. Track has got one really bad tear threw.. It at one time had 196 studs...

Well, got it in the shop this am.. runs ok, but coolant leaks really bad. checked compression and its low.. 100 on pto, 95 center, and 95 on mag. Took exhaust off and mag piston is scored pretty good, but the other two don't look just to bad, but hard to tell from the exhaust port.
The front bolts for the rear skid are in bad shape, one bolt is missing or broke, and it put all the pressure on the pto side bolt so that one is busted up the tunnel pretty good.
Checked the part number on the jug, and it is a 600. Going to to with 1997 for the yr. What you guys think..
