My father's friend dropped off another sled for me to work on. 2005 SkiDoo 800HO. He wants a few things done but I usually work on Polaris edge sleds... Any suggestions and tips would be appreciated.
1.) This sled has the windshield mounted to the handlebars. He wants risers. How do I go about doing this? Is there a kit. where can i find it?
2.) Pre-season tune up. I do these constantly, but is there anything I should know about these sleds?
3.) Speedo died. I don't see a "key" in the drive shaft like Polaris sleds. How do i fix this issue. I also noticed the sled said it had "adjustable power valves" can anyone explain what that means.
4.) Any other common issues I should check for?
Thanks guys!

if you are doing this type of work you should pick up a shop manual, that would help out and answer your questions
you want to check:
carbs
clutches
driveterain
ect.
I would think that the window would stay in place with risers, depending on how high you go, it may need a longer brake hose.
Speedo
-pull cable and turn be sure it turns at the other end (broken cable?)
-place cable back into driver end and it (the inner cable) should fit into a "key" you should not be able to turn the open end if in the driver, if not you need a new key
-Then disconect from the driver and hook to the speedo and hook the open end to a drill, slowly speen up to verify that the speedo works.
good luck
Fix it till its broke!

does he have lights? if he lost lights along with the speedo and tach then it's more than likely the relay, I've posted on this before in this sub forum. as far as everything else TeamNFG is spot on. The speedo works off of a magnet on the end of the shaft, so as long as the shaft is turning and the wire is not cut it should be working. if it's not then I'd start with the relay, then check the wire, if the wire is good, check the magnetic adapter on the shaft. http://216.37.204.206/xtremepowersports/...A=668&B=17

The problem with the speedo is it jumps around. when it is idling it shows that its going like 100 mph but keeps bouncing around...

TeamNFG, no problem I didn't realize my sled had power to the speedo and tach until I did the track extension on my sled and then of course again when the relay crapped out on me last year.

Does it have electric start? If so check if the battery is dead. If the battery is disconnected or bad the speedo will jump like crazy unless you have a special wiring harness. I had this with my new summit i got this summer. The electric start has a different wiring harness than the non estart. If estart is installed, there has to be a good battery in order for things to operate properly. I'm no expert, but this is just what I experienced this summer.
