^ I'm pretty sure it's legal.

Saw the 14 point non typical I'm after today! also saw a real nice ten pointer and 2 good sized 8's.

I read that and KNEW you were not in NY. I have never seen any of those in all my years hunting. And you are seeing them in one day?

So I figured you were either by a bait pile or out of NY.. or both.

Baiting is not legal in MN. I have a coworker that is going back home tomorrow to hunt. And he tells me that the area he hunts has a lot less hunting pressure than the areas around here where baiting is legal.

Matt, if you get the right mix of crop land and swamp, the bucks have a chance to get old and grow those nice racks. Evidently, v-max has a spot like that. And I am really envious. Maybe he could invite you and I to hunt there? I'll even use my bow to make it more exciting. and I know you have stated how much you love archery hunting.

^ hell where we used to hunt we would see a buck every 2 years if we were lucky

Baiting is illegal and immoral imo. We live about 1/8 a mile out side of city limits, no one can hunt in town. There are a few farms around here. Behind our house is thick woods and theres a natural trail that the deer have formed about 250-300 yards back and my stand is probably 50 yards past that. I can sit in my stand basically everynight and see at least 20 deer. Most of the deer that I see are bucks, the does usually come more towards the houses.

Haha maybe, there's only 23 acres that I can use for hunting around our home. But where we hunt in hermantown your more than welcome to come, there's a total of 220 acres that we can use. 120 of which is a family friends, the other 100 is split between three homes. There's some monsters there also, I've never seen anything larger than a 12 pointer there but out of 220 acres probably 100 of which is solid fields.

Is there more than one Hermantown? I know of one by Duluth. A coworker went back to MN yesterday to I guess finish out bow season and start gun season. He is going to the Hibbing area. His dad lives on one of the lakes south of there I think it was. Don't remember which one cause I know there are a ton if you include the mining ponds/lakes.

Hell, I might just do that if I were him. But I would take better care of that hide. If he keeps manhandling the deer like that, his mount is going to look like crap!!

Deer hunting is something ive never liked. Im not really into just sitting still and waiting for long periods of time, i just cant do it. Tomorrow my biology teacher is taking a personal day to relax in the woods, and "look" at some deer. He has to say that so he can use his personal days.

What we do hunt for is waterfowl. I love duck and goose hunting. It takes a ton of skill to do it,like any hunting, or just be super lucky. You have to be able to call good, know how to set your decoys and blinds, and you have to be able to control yourself so you dont try to take them to early or flare them. Last year my dad and i went with some of my friends, and only got 2 geese and a duck. But you could watch the ducks and geese just go into this field down the road that people were hunting, and then fly back out.

A big problem anymore is that they will never leave the cities. They know they wont be shot at, and they have everything they need to live. They arent really wild animals anymore. We almost ran over a goose the other day when we were shopping, it just walked in front of us and looked at our car. They are just getting to smart. But there is also the same problem with deere. They wont leave the cities and neighborhoods, and arent scared by people.

We'll what did everyone get today??

I saw a total of 13 deer, all does except for a small spiker, and the 14 pointer. Which was alittle less than an hour before sun rise and I could BARELY make out the rack through the shadows, I decided to wait and hopefully I see him tommorrow.

I hunted yesterday and saw jack crap besides a doe I scared walking in. I did not hunt today because I worked all night and had chainsawing to do. Might hunt tomorrow night.

Seeing 13 deer like the guy above is my dream that will never happen around here.

I saw a total of 11 deer yesterday (biggest one being a fork) and 3 so far today. I went and drove some swamps with my brother in law and crew, and I missed a doe at 80 yards with slugs. Shot 3 times and one hit in front of her and 2 above her. I came to the conclusion that slugs suck. It started raining now, so I might not go back out. We'll see what the weather does.

Rifled slug barrel or smooth? Michigan allow muzzleloaders in the Shotgun region. I sighted in both mine yesterday.

I've seen 5 does on 10 trips out with my bow but no shots.

saw 3 does and a 4 point buck, Saturday, I shot a doe, lost the blood trail and couldn't find her, I looked forever, what a waste of a good deer. Sunday, saw one doe but couldn't find her in the scope. Monday, saw a 4 pointer 4 times in 10 minutes, he was chasing does, came trotting towards my stand and by the time I shot he was only 5 yards away.

^^^^Congrats on your first deer. I still remember mine like it was yesterday.

Jerkyking.....it was a smooth barrel with rifled slugs. I was going to use my muzzleloader but it hasn't been shot in 2 years and I didn't have time to make sure it was sight it in. It was kind of a spur of the moment deal.

Hunting is very slow around here. Too much corn still standing. I've been out 2 times this week. Saw 1 small buck each time. I counted the shots I heard and one night I heard 13 (4 differnt shooters) and one morning I heard 4 (2 different shooters). This year Is the least amount of deer I've ever seen in 13 years of hunting.

Could have been a case of the nerves or he peeked at the head one last time.

If he used the scope, he would have had a hard time picking out a spot on the body. Most scopes have a fixed focal length of about 100-200 yards. At 5 yards, he would have seen blurred brown. A head/neck shot becomes a necessity.

I bought a scope that I could adjust the focus from 5 FEET to infinity for just that reason. Sure sucks when you miss a chance at a deer because it is too close. Now if he had a bow in his hand.....

Kingofkings: congrats on the first buck.

I have seen exactly one buck since the season started on Sept 19th.

This is the guy I will be looking for when WI opens next weekend.

Those sneeky bastards, he was 20 yards when I saw him and he was qickly trotting towards my direction, couldn't get him in my scope so I had to use field sights(raised scope mounts and trueglo field sight), had to do a quick shot, basicly, he caught me off gaurd. First shot hit the spine, dropped like a rock but his front legs and head were still moving so I had to climb down because the others I was hunting with were walking my way, didn't want to hit them, and the guy said to hit him in the neck so that is where I hit him. Bright side, didn't waste as much meat as a vital shot. Also, it was a little bit of "buck fever"lol

Hunted deer with a 20gauge before my 30-30 and those things do a lot of damage.
