my dad was tellin me a story last winter when they were riding up at my camp on the rr tracks and they had a newby to the tracks with them (abandoned tracks you ride down the center of them) and he went over too far and hit a connector which in result bent his trailing arm up into an upside down v and rather that leave it and ride out with what was still attached he stepped on it and snapped it so in order to repair it good enough to ride out my dad snapped off a tree branch and with a rock he hammered the branch into the arm on both sides then they held it all together with a bunch of tie wire lol

Broke a throttle lever, fixed with duct tape and a stick.

Seat mounts came undone and seat fell off and wouldn't stay on, duct taped it on.

Headlights came unwired to the point that I couldn't fix it in the dark at -20 so I stopped at a gas station bought a flash light and taped it on my helmet.

Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

Not very creative... but my dad a few years ago dropped the oil cap to his srx under the motor. He couldn't reach it so he used a cork to plug the hole.

My dad has this one friend we call "moose" he doesnt snowmobile anymore because he has had to many injuries. I have heard so many stories about when they were younger. One i remeber is the time when they were in a bar and looked outside and he was in the road doing donuts for like 10 minutes and then the track flew off. They then straped the back of that sled with no track to the seat of a working snowmobile and went back 30 miles around midnight. Another time he barrel rolled his sled and the ski popped off and somehow they rode like 80 miles back but i dont remeber how. He also used to do hilclimbs right until he couldnt go further and let his sled roll down the hill just like the movies. There are many more stories i cant think of maybe i will ask my dad later.

Recoil broke.. used my belt around the clutch to start it.

Low on antifreeze and overheat.. kept putting snow in it

Ski pivot holes wore out and I had to ride so I filled them with JB weld and redrilled, held up perfect for that ride, even did a thread on here about it and took a poll on weather or not it would last for a ride

Bolt in rear skid broke so my spring was going into my track, sled would not move. I put a shoulder bolt in a different hole just to keep the spring off the track and rode it home.

sounds like a good time, funniest thing i have ever seen was seeing 12 grown men trying to get a snowmobile unstuck from a 4 foot snow bank, if i remember correctly it took a 12 foot long log to un lodge it.

Blew my motor on my SRX and went into the woods, found 3 stumps about the same size as the jugs, whittled them out to the correct size. Then went and found some rocks and made pistons out of them. Used more whittled stumps as the head and had some D batteries i made a spark plug.

But seriously had a carbide broke and it was bent down. We only had small wrenches and none were the right size to just remove it so we went and found a couple sticks, wire and used another sled to bend it back up and eventually break it off so it at least wasnt trying to dig a trench into the ground.

Broke a limiter strap and fixed it with a piece of ratchet strap on the side of the trail, lasted the rest of the season.

Broke my oil pump cable right at the pump. Idled engine with fuel shut off and holding the oil pump lever as if the casbs were at wot, till carbs were ermpty. Dumped some oil into the tank, tried for a 40:1 ratio. Pulled till it srarted back up running premix, and rode the 10 miles back to camp then went and got a new cable.

My friend rolled his sled, and most of his throttle cable snapped ( but still had an inch or so of throttle left ), so we went to the closest store, and got a popsicle ( so we could use the stick ), and also got some gorilla glue and duct tape. Worked like a charm.

broke a tie rod once, duct taped a stick from ski loop to ski loop to ride it home.

Threw a stud through the cooler, coolant was coming out but not really fast. Hammered down until it got hot, pulled over and took a leak in the bottle. Went until it got hot again, used my glove to get water out of a nearby creek.

My brother and I broke a leaf spring shackle and mount on the snowmobile trailer going down H-58 between Grand Marais and Munising, MI. I'm sure some of you know just how remote that area is.....

We unloaded the trailer, went for about a 3 hour ride, all the while thinking about what to do.

When we got back I cut a piece of an Oak tree that was about 3 inches in diameter and 4-5 inches long, put the trailer up on it's side and duct tapped the sh*t out of it to the spring and what was left of the mount. It worked so good we finished our drive all the way to Big Bay where a friend welded up the trailer!

I make sure to always have a full roll of that gray miracle tape in all my vehicles! Gotta love it!

Was riding back in the mountains a few years ago and the the handlebar mounting plate broke off of the steering column. We pounded the small end of the spark plug wrench through the plate and down the steering column tube. It didn't fit very tight so we hammered in a socket that was big enough to expand the spark plug tool up to get a tight fit in the tube and then put a hose clamp around it. Made the rest of the day and out to the trucks.

Dads leaf spring broke on his 2place trailer 1400km from home in the middle of nowhere after a week of back woods sledding. Simple fix. jackked up said trailer after unloading both bearcats and about 1000lbs of gear. walked in to the woods found a 8" or so diameter tree cut down with a hand saw and then cut it to length and nothced it out so would sit over top of the trailer axle and keep the tires from rubbing, strapped it down using zip ties and tape. took off the other leaf spring and then loaded back up and continued home. Total time to fix 25mins. he used the trailer like that about 3 or 4 more times and eventually converted it to a dual axle setup.

My dad's friend was riding my brother's XLT and came around a corner and hooked the trailing arm on a small stump which ripped it right out from the side of the sled. A small wrench and a roll of duct tape later they were back on the trail for the rest of the weekend, my brother wasn't too happy when his sled showed back up with the trailing arm duct taped to the side. LOL

I know a few people probably have done this but, my seat mount broke so I threw the seat back on, rode back to town and dropped it off..and went back out for more(seatless). Almost did a front flip off of a snow drift and when I landed I bent my steering post forward, so I pulled it back towards me as hard as I could and kept goin'. Had to get a new post of course after that though.
