Feb. 4-8th, Snowy Range, Wyoming.
We book a trip out there every year at the end of January or beginning of February.
Here's some pics from last year. Best sledding trip of my life. It snowed about 2 ft. every night. After this trip I decided I was buying a newer and longer sled come hell or high water. Can't stand letting my riding partners highmark me.

I really like the rider forward chassis of the Ski-Doo's, as well as the light weight. The XP's have proven to be durable, just watch any pro riding video.
I couldn't trust the Polaris 800 CFI motor. 3 top end designs in 3 years, that just doesn't install confidence in me. I'm not brand loyal. Suspension is awesome on the IQ, we'll see how the XP compares, I predict the XP to be just as good or just a little bit worse. Polaris suspensions are always awesome, no denying that. The IQ chassis is absolutely rock solid as well. I don't think there's a better designed chassis out there from a strength standpoint.
M-series chassis just feels too much like the Edge/Pro-X chassis, I wanted something that was more rider forward. I will say Cat(Suzuki) has the most reliable 2 stroke motors in the snowmobile industry, no question. Ski-Doo has had very few problems with their '09 XP 800 motors though so I'm not worried.
I am just not interested in a Yamaha 4 stroke, plain and simple. For the type of riding I want to do, their sleds just don't suit me, especially considering I only weigh 165 pounds. The Yamaha's carve fine in deep powder, very well actually, but in setup snow conditions they are tanks unless you have alot of weight to throw around(I don't have that luxury). I find it ridiculous that a snowmobile, no matter it's size, number of strokes, etc. should weigh over 525 pounds. Consumers have accepted overweight sleds for too long IMO. I have a '05 Yamaha YZF-R6(crotch rocket) sitting in my garage and I can tell you right now there's way more engineering going into that R6 than there is an Apex. Yamaha is content with being in 3rd or 4th place in sled sales, that's their prerogative. I love my R6, I would not trade it for another bike on the market, except for a newer R6, so it's not like I have anything against Yamaha, after all, I owned an SRX, as well as an Exciter and I can often be seen wearing a Yamaha cap or beanie.
I am a firm believer in buying whatever you feel is the best sled for you, that's what I did. If it turns out I made the wrong choice, then this sled will be up for sale next year, but I don't see that happening. I rode my brother's '09 Summit a little bit and it was awesome.
I used to rub the console on my Pro-X constantly, so a rider forward chassis is the right choice for me. I think I broke the choke off my Pro-X 4 times actually, from rubbing up against the console so much, the choke would catch on my legs or knees and rip off.
I loved my Pro-X, I will miss that sled dearly, but it was time for me to move on. That sled was a torque monster and I lined up against an XP and got beat in a 500' race by about a length and a half(stock clutching on the XP), that tells me that the XP's have alot of potential motorwise. Obviously a mountain sled isn't made to drag race but it still gives an impression of what the motor is capable of. I don't think there's any denying the XP chassis is superior to the Pro-X chassis in the powder.
Long winded post I know but I tried to give a fair assessment of all the sleds.

Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

Great unbiased fair post from someone who had rode all the models.
I don't feel as suzuki has the most reliable engines in the market but close. I think yamaha had that title. Polaris is up there if you take out the bean counters screwing up the 800's.

Quote originally posted by xcr440 I don't feel as suzuki has the most reliable engines in the market but close. I think yamaha had that title. Polaris is up there if you take out the bean counters screwing up the 800's. You missed a keyword, most reliable 2-stroke engines. Most reliable snowmobile engine(2 or 4 stroke) goes to Yamaha without a doubt. I agree the 800 CFI motor could be a good motor. I see I'm over my bandwidth limit on my Photobucket account, as usual. If anybody wants to see the pics, just go to my Media Gallery in my profile.
