I have a 1985? yamaha srv 540 air cooled sled, it has no start no spark. The problem first occured after riding it for 5 min the sled just died i tried to restart it but nothing (the headlight doesent even light) im new to snomobiles but i know motors and bringing it to a mechanic will cost me to much. could this be caused by the stator or a cdi box and if so how can i test them? thanks!

the stator is diagnosable while on the sled. its simply a matter of checking ohms on certain wire combinations. a good dealer would have that info, i dont have any on a sled that old. as for the cdi, i am not aware of any tests for it. did you look at the basics, like kill switch, key switch, or perhaps someone put a tether switch on and its defective/missing?

Either way CDI or Stator are not cheep fixes, on my 01 Arctic cat zl 800 it needed to get a stator recoilled cause it shorted out socting 800 and when i got it back the dealership said that the short cause the cdi to short aswell meaning another 850 for the cdi unit, depending where you like i know that royal distributing had cheeper ones but are not a brand name cheak them out
